Plaza Premium Lounge will soon be opening two pay-in lounges and a day hotel at Bengaluru International Airport in Bangalore, India.

According to the report, while popular destinations such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune continued to occupy top positions, the ranking revealed some unexpected contenders in the Top 10 league including Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi, Coimbatore and Nagpur.
"Rapid and unplanned urbanization in the country over the past few decades has led to unprecedented job demand. Job creation is a crucial answer to this challenge which calls for the pressing need to develop new industrial townships and business districts to ease the pressure from the already saturated business destinations," says Anshul Jain, Chief Executive, DTZ.
Bangalore commercial space absorption that witnessed 105 million sft absorbed till date as compared to other top Indian cities led mainly by growth in leasing from IT/ITes firm, also helped fuelling growth in the residential real estate market |
This took me by surprise - given the reality of horrible crumbling infrastructure in BLR - no roads, no water, no power etc.

I don't know what the original date was, but there's still work going on across the terminal, the new "façade" is not ready yet (at least wasn't 2 weeks ago when I left BLR).

| Somewhat surprised. I found Mumbai roads better than Bangalore, I know some of it was due to the metro construction. And water is only available about 3 to 4 times a week for a few hours, in many localities in Bangalore. |

"This is India's first airport built in collaboration with the citizens of Bangalore and the traveller community at large making it a truly inclusive airport," said BIAL. |
The opening is to coincide with the renaming of the airport.

Some of them now have a letter suffixed.
For e.g. there are gates 7, 7A, 7B,7C. |

I agree. I flew in and out of there yesterday and was disappointed to find the new section still under construction. On the upside, the removal of the barricades outside make the whole place look a lot brighter and open - I like the way it looks now.
The interiors kinda look like the lovechild of KLIA and Changi  |

Inaugurations often have nothing to do with operations, as it's a "Ceremonial/ feel good" type of thing - and really involves the availability of the VIPs/ stars being aligned etc. There'll probably be another small celebration when the terminal actually opens.

Took my first flight out of the renovated section - few comments
Indigo check in has moved to the new section, rest continue in their respective positions
There was a BIAL employee asking Domestic passengers to go left and international to turn right. But except for 6E, everyone else on the right side. When I asked the person, he said the CISF staff asked them to say so.
Security is a slight mess. They have brought the security desks slightly forward thus reducing the queuing space. Plus the position of pillars in the middle make it feel cramped
The old security check is closed for renovation
One new food outlet and coupla new retail outlets added
Plaza Premium Lounge opened in the upper level.
The new gates are slightly different from the older one. The agent position is in front of the gate rather than by the side as in the previous gates. This way passengers can go to the gate from either side of the agent desk.
Arrival at Gate 1 and 2 will mean a longish walk to the escalators due to the bus gates at the departure bus gates below.

Just got a chance to see the new terminal first hand. Really good improvement over what we had! Now KIAL starts looking like an airport
Also the new expressway from the city to the Airport makes for a really smooth drive and awesome views of the Jakkur airfield. A small aircraft landed from just a few tens of feet above the elevated road onto the runway at Jakkur when one of my friends were driving by. |

Aera also allowed GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd-run Bangalore Airport to charge Rs.1,226 per international and Rs.306 per domestic passenger in the next fiscal year. “The rates determined herein are ceiling rates, exclusive of taxes, if any,” Aera said. |
Bad to see the increments, but at least it's far lesser than what was demanded. How do AK's charges of Rs. 500/passenger work out with the UDF alone being Rs. 306/pax!

In a recent interview with Express, CEO of low cost carrier AirAsia, Mitoo Chandilya said that the incentive was good but the targets have been hit by an airline. His boss and AirAsia Group Chairman, Tony Fernandes had remarked that ‘airport taxes in India were as much as their airfares’.
BIAL which operates the Kempegowda International Airport in the city said that they are in talks with the state government to promote the city as a hub for aviation activity.
“We will be able to attract an airline to make Bangalore their base only if the tax levied on ATF is reduced,” Hari Marar, President of Airport operations told reporters here.
ATF is one of the highests in India when compared to other regional hubs like Singapore and Malaysia. ATF accounts for nearly 40% of the operations costs of an airline. Marar reasons that the reducing of ATF to 4% would have a 11% impact on airline’s cost structure. |
Reducing the charges on ATF is something that's been on the table for a long time. However will the govt. bite the bullet and give up immediate revenues on the hope of longer term gains?

Landed in BIAL today..
I think I saw a double decker gate today...the last aerobridge in the international wing? I have a feeling one the bridges was too high than the other....
