Tim Clark, the boss at Emirates is getting ready to annouunce the next phase of the airlines' fleet plan.
As expected its a mega deal --- for either 100 A350s or 100 787s.
Clark is travelling to France and the US to discuass things but indications are that the airline might go for the 787.
Clark, says BBC, wants to make EK the world's largest airline and corner a huge segment of world airline traffic. |

There's a thread on A.net that says this announcement is only next year not this year.
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/3330741/
quoting Reuters:

Quote: | Emirates is also mulling the possibility of ordering Airbus's planned A350-XWB, or extra wide body, and Boeing Co.'s 787-10X, which the two aircraft makers are considering offering. The possible Boeing model is a larger version of its 787 "Dreamliner".
Emirates's order for the models could range between 60 and 100 aircraft. "If we go with one of those airplanes, the belief is that that is the number we could buy," Clark said.
Still, the Dubai government-owned carrier was unlikely to make any order this year, he said. |

Emirates will finalise its shopping list for up to 100 mid-size aircraft worth around $15 billion once Airbus and Boeing submit revised and more customised bids shortly, a top Emirates official said here.
The Dubai-based airline is waiting for final bid submission on the mid-size A350 XWB (Extra Wide Body) of up to 100 aircraft from Airbus next month, says Tim Clarke, president of Emirates Airline.
"We hope Airbus will submit their final offer on the aircraft's configuration and the delivery schedule sometimes next month following which we will be able to begin evaluation of the offers," Clarke said. "We will engage with Airbus on the A350XWB next month (April) on their latest offer. Once we get the final proposals on the table, we will then begin due diligence and, later on, take a decision for between 60 and 100 aircraft, which will be a little after summer 2007 " |

Indeed - we've heard both versions of the story. It's just that the "not this year" version came later than the "this year" version, so it's possible EK/Clarke have decided to wait until 08. Or it's possible that they'll order anyway this year |
