The captain, who at this point shall go unnamed, said ".... Apni suraksha ke liye kripya apni petticoat baandh ke rakhein ..."

Now normally I would've guessed my dirty mind heard it, but when the fellow captains started laughing it all made sense, that it was not just me who heard it that way.

I guess what he wanted to say was "kripya apni petti ko baandh ke rakhein" but when he said it really fast, it came out as "petticoat"...

I have no idea what's technical about it, but I guess I couldn't fit it into any other forum, and this was the closest, since its Tech & Ops.

Technically, it was a oops moment. So i guess Tech/Ops sounds pretty similar Wink

We had something like that once. The IFS, instead of announcing "Requesting all Ground Personnel to deplane as we are closing doors", announced "Requesting all Passengers to deplane as we are closing doors". And 2 chaps actually got up too on hearing that Razz

The more common Oops moment is the interchanging of "Take Off Stations" and "Landing Stations" call.

I remember during our first year of operations - wen the pax were not used to our flights / flight numbers we had several small incidents. We used to have a COK-AUH-MCT-COK flight. Now as far as we were concerned [ckpt that is] the outbound flight number was there till MCT. But for the Commercial chaps and the pax, the flight number used to change to the Inbound one in AUH. So when the crew used to announce "Welcome on board IX ***, MOST of the pax used to jump up shouting that they are onboard the wrong aircraft. Took almost half a year before they calmed down Wink

Its like telling your no 2 "Cheer up " on take off roll.
and he hears it as "Gear up" .....

ROFL!

Sometimes wonder what actually goes on inside the Flt Crews' minds when they say 'Cabin crew to Landing Positions' when they are in line for Take-Off. Confused

Well, holding up your 'petticoat' for your suraksha, is fair expectation in all situations, including during the flight..so it's technical enough, I say.. Laughing

On a TG flight to SYD recently, the IFS announced that the "flight would be going to Brisbane and the travel time to Brisbane would be....". The fact that SYE, MEL and BNE flights were boarding from consecutive gates caused a small panic within the a/c as it was being pushed back!! Smile

My faux pas on AMD-FRA, "Cabin crew on upper deck please respond to the cockpit call". Only that we were on a 777..... *sigh*

^ AI. Don't think DGCA would have any particular guidelines for languages other than English. They must have framed just that it be in Eng as well one local language. The guys that did that job of sticking it were Americanos Smile

We had a similar problem with one of the placards in our 737s too. The fact is Boeing [in our case] just stick what the company gives them. In our case it was AI's Hindi Dept which did the boo boo in the translation and the Hindi and English meaning were completely opposite. It took about 3 months for the correction to reach Boeing and the the last 8 aircraft had the corrected version installed.

I guess either someone did'nt proof read properly or the aircraft manufacturer got the incomplete data

And today we had a masalajet cutlet who did the entire cabin PA on the departure frequency. The best was when an unknown pilot with a sense of humor responded "Ok, that is good, now do it for the passengers".

Overheard on MCT CTR frequency:

TG228 [i think]: "Maascaat cantrol thaii 228 request flight lebel thlee seben zelo"

MCT: TG228, FL 370 is not available.

after about 5 min

TG228 : "Maascaat cantrol thaii 228 request flight lebel thlee seben zelo"

MCT: TG 228, FL370 not available due to traffic.

after another 5 min

TG228: "Maascaat cantrol thaii 228 request flight lebel thlee seben zelo"

This time, before MCT could answer, another aircraft jumped in :

XXX: TG 288, Muscat say FL370 no have, no have"

TG228 : Loja

And after that, silence from TG228 Wink

Hahaha! Won't "Can Not, Can Not" be the more appropriate one - that's what I've heard much more (at least in Malaysia and Singapore, not been to BKK for a while now)...

It might have been more apt....but the "no have" did the trick too Wink

A particular captain who's now in kingfish was in alliance earlier (ex-air force types), he had a heart of gold, the nicest guy you could ever meet.

Those were the days when liquids could be carried on board, and we had returned from an engine run to Hong Kong and had purchased a novelty "Bacardi Limon" which hadn't hit Indian shores then.

Half way across despatch he screams at me "Aye Aye... Wier did you gay fockardi" and I was like "Huh???" he screams back "fockardi fockardi", when i gave latitude for his oriya accent to interpret he meant Bacardi.

I flew with him again about 3 years ago and he made the usual kingfish cabin pa which captains have to do, and trust me, there were quite a few scared passengers on that flight.
