Sad but true. Sad Yesterday India lost it's opening match against Bangladesh. And with this i guess India's chances of making it to next round becomes extremely slim. Because:

1. If India beat both Bermuda and Sri Lanka then it has 2 wins.
2. Bangladesh beat Bermuda but looses to Sri Lanka then it too has 2 wins but since they beat us in group stages, they go through.
3. Just hope like mads that Bermuda beat Bangladesh and India beat Sri Lanka else... it's good bye India this world Cup. Sad

No cheers this time
Shivendra

Guess the Decision to bat first on a moist wicket was a wrong one.Rahul wanted to post 300+ & get BAN out for less to gain a Bonus point but Backfired bad.
I hope India can take a Bonus point against Bermuda & knock out SL.It will be tough but def a possibility.

Im confident We still have a chance.Too bad this time no India-Pak match.

Stunning and shocking.

Almost like an inter-district encounter.

Indian needs luck --- on a wing and prayer.

Indeed unfortunate. The headline in one of the newspapers sums it all up:

Indian batsmen show wilt power

Its no big deal if such totals are scored vs Bermuda. They should be able to fire in the match against srilanka to prove their form

British press, which includes The Guardian, now says that calls were made from an unidentified (betting and underworld) syndicate to the Pakistani, Indian and Sri Lankan teams.

Apparently things started to go downhill after the Pak team loss in the initial stages which didn;t go down well with the bookie syndicate.

There are also reports of an unidentified 5-member gang (read D Gang splinter group) that travelled with the Pak team and now allegedly behind the Woolmer murder.

More specifically, a senior member of the Pak team is allegedly involved in the case and let in the assailants into Woolmer's room. (which is why fingerprints of all the players have been taken).
A relative of the D Gang splinter group is working in the hotel where Woolmer was staying and hence access was easy.

Why was Woolmer silenced? Brit Press says that he was about to issue a public statement and release evidence of what had happened to Pakistan in the earlier stages of the WC.

Crucial chapter of Woolmer's unreleased book are also missing. Significant part of this was on the findings by the Delhi Police and is supposed to have startling revelations in connection with the Cronje case.

This really turns the game around. Is a win or loss now manipulated?

The betting syndicate has stained the game.
Viewers and cricket fans are the real losers.

Quotes:
Jamaica Police on Friday finally confirmed that that Bob Woolmer, the coach of the Pakistani cricket team, was murdered.
Police said that according to second post-mortem report Woolmer was strangled to death in his room at Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. His death was due to asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation.
‘‘Bob was a large man and it would have taken some significant force to subdue him. At this stage, we don’t know how many people were there in the room. It could be one or more people involved in the murder,’’ said Deputy Commissioner of Jamaican Police Mark Shields at a press conference.

***
Jamaican Police have recovered contact numbers of some South Asian players, including some Indians, from a person arrested in connection with the sensational murder of coach Bob Woolmer.
A top player, who was named in the match-fixing scandal that rocked international cricket in the late ’90s, said on condition of anonimity that police had shortlisted six suspects in the Woolmer case.
‘‘From what my informers have told me, they have arrested one man and he had telephone numbers of some players which are now being looked into,’’ he said.
The former batsman said Woolmer’s death could serve as a catylst in finding out the truth behind match-fixing in international cricket and involvement of players, officials and umpires.
Citing the case of Marlon Samuels’ links with an Indian bookie, he said this was a strong indication about the presence of match-fixing racket in international cricket.
‘‘Don’t forget just before the World Cup you also had a West Indian player Marlon Samuels being investigated for his links with an Indian bookmaker when he was playing in India,’’ the player said.
**
Jamaican Police now suspect the involvement of match-fixers in the murder because the laptop of Woolmer was missing from his hotel room.
‘‘They didn’t take any other valuables but just his laptop so it clearly is something suspicious. I know Woolmer used to take down his notes for his forthcoming book and stored it on his laptop’’.

Latest in is that the Pakistani team has been asked to stay back till Tuesday. However Jamaican Police have said this does not imply anything.

Not surprising at all! The only reason why i don't like cricket is because of this. And im sure these people will bet and bring india because companies like Pepsi, LG, etc have invested in hundred crores in sponsers and if the team loses out they suffer. im sure they wouldn't mind spending a few 10 crores more and making india win matches artificially

Ironically dad praised Ganguly and he got out within the next two balls and i praised Sachin and he got out too...!!!
These people themselves don't deserve praises...seems like they'll be returning home with the Pakistan team...also get them back in some in one of the AI A310 economy class

Quite disappointing but something I think i have written them below:
PS: i am not an expert but these are my observations...
    * Greg Chappel is the only guy to blame...although he's definately at fauilt at many places. BUT Chappel i feel is a TRUE cricketer and not interested into advertisements and diversions from cricket which our players do.
    * Its quite difficult to distinguish if our team members are cricket players or models! Just BAN them from doing advertisements and see the difference. Im sure they'll be back on the track
    * OVER-CONFIDENCE in our players like in Dhoni ... atleast my score against socitey boys was higher than that Wink

Your opinions please

I assume that's because hez not a native of India. If Dravid or Tendulkar had said something like that i m sure he would be lynched in public. Not to mention of Sehwag, who would be lynched anyway.

I guess We have stars but no Team Members in our Cricket Team.
Glad I decided to go for a drive on those Empty roads Smile

Maybe now the Criteria for qualification would be from Domestic cricket for all players & get the Selectors elected & NOT from zone basis.

What about Captain & Coach Smile

This is what we get if we give too much importance to our cricketers that they will do well and win the world cup.It is better that we isolate them for a year without paying any attention to them.So that we won't feel bad if they loose.

Another imp thing:
BCCI should ban players from endorcing the products.

TIMES OF INDIA

Jokes:
Many fans have now dubbed the national team as the ‘BCCI Club team'. "Sehwag ko Mayur pehnao; Sachin ko Pepsi pilao; Ganguly ko chyawanprash khilao; Dhoni ko Brylcreem lagao; Dravid me Castrol bharao... Lekin un ******ko cricket MAT khelao..." reads an SMS, mocking the star batsmen over their ads appearances.

Another SMS takes on coach Greg Chappel: "Greg is missing. A note found in his hotel room said, ‘I am rushing home. Pls note that I am NOT writing and WILL NOT write any book in my life!"' This SMS came after the alleged murder of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer and India's loss to Bangladesh.

One of the e-mails has seven questions about the Indian cricket team, and the answers are rib-tickling: "What is the most proficient form of footwork displayed by Indian batsmen?" Answer: "The walk back to the pavilion."

"What is the Indian version of a hat-trick?" Answer: "3 runs in 3 balls." "Where do Indian batsmen perform their best?" Answer: "In ads." "What is the height of optimism?" Answer: "Sehwag coming out to bat applying sunscreen on his face."

Last, but not the least: "What did the spectator miss when he went to the toilet?" "The entire Indian innings!"

Another SMS that was very popular in Chennai:
Hot News: Serious fight between Indian players and Pakistani players for the window seat in the aeroplane.

****

TIMES OF INDIA

Team India is set to return home but most players have yet to recover from the sight of Sachin Tendulkar openly shedding tears after the loss to Sri Lanka on Friday.

Tendulkar had tears streaming down his cheeks after Munaf Patel was caught on the squareleg fence by Chaminda Vaas. It brought to end India's disastrous chase of Sri Lanka's reasonable target and more or less shut them out of the 2007 World Cup.

Tendulkar, who had contributed nothing to India's chase earlier in the day, being clean bowled by Dilhara Fernando, first tried to control his emotions but unable to do so, locked himself in the bathroom lest he made a spectacle of self in the public.

A couple of junior cricketers in the side were so taken aback by the sight that they themselves started to cry.

It's little secret that Tendulkar desperately wanted to do well in this World Cup and be a part of the winning team. The "little master" in his glorious career more or less achieved everything he set out to do, but his World Cup dream is unlikely to be realized now.

Young fast bowler S Sreesanth's emotions got better of him as he too broke into tears. He was consoled by close friend Robin Utthapa, who on his part was so nervous and upset that he kept drinking cups of coffee. Sreesanth just couldn't stop crying and kept saying: "Why God did this to us?"

While Tendulkar and Sreesanth gave vent to their emotions, fast bowler Zaheer Khan broke a chair in the dressing room. After making a spectacular comeback to the Indian team, Zaheer's colleagues said that he was desperate to make amends from the last World Cup final where he let his adrenalin get better of him.

Rahul Dravid, by all accounts, was himself tearful while Sourav Ganguly, behind his glasses, sat stunned on his seat.

Coach Greg Chappell had given up on the team during the match. As soon as Mahendra Singh Dhoni was out, going back and finding himself plumb in front to Muthiah Muralitharan, he got up and switched off the television.

As far as he was concerned, there was little else to see.

His vision and work of past 18 months had come crashing down in a matter of a week.
