folks!

Here is the delivary status of AI's B772LR and 9W's B773ER. Found a very good site regarding this matter. Shows that 9W's big bird isn't very far behind.

At least that's what you get from AI's website.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

U mean BOM-AMD-BOM-CDG-EWR run.

From the AI site, it seems

Mon and Sat they are running 744 on this route and all other days 777.

Air India Express may order more Boeing 737-800s, its chief operating officer P.P. Singh has said, says a UNI report.
Air India is considering a further purchase of 737-800s and the numbers are being assessed by the management, he said.
"It's not going to be small order."
Boeing's production capacity is sold out until 2009 so it is better to order "well in time," he said.
Air India express now has 12 aircraft, seven on lease and 5 of its own.

Re: AIX to order more a/c - I think this was from a few days ago. Definitely a good sign, as they can use the 738s for regional routes providing adequate capacity with excellent frequencies, and leave the wide bodies for the long haul routes.

I think AI should also start planning for additional wide bodies, maybe a set of 789s would be suitable for future point to point long haul routes.

I can remember a news on either NDTV or IBN7 or Star news that AIX will be considering some 737-900ERs...now i can't remember the channel exactly nor can i confirm there was no goof-up in the news

Air India is now planning budget flights to the U.S. and Europe.
AI is closely watching the Air Asia LCC and Oasis Airlines models and is seriously considering this.

A report has also appeared in the Telegraph.

A-I plans budget flights to US

AI's fleet mess up is supposed to be causing heartache in the US.

A report in the New Jersey Home News Tribune
http://tinyurl.com/2k5y3h

Quote:

"Passengers just complain, complain and complain, about Air India once they come back," Chatrath said.

S. Venkat, executive director-finance and spokesperson for India, said in an e-mail that the airline made the change in planes flying between Newark and Mumbai, and canceled some of its flights.

Venkat said it's 3-year-lease expired on the large planes and "despite our best efforts to locate replacement capacity in the market, we could not do so due to a tough lease market for wide bodied aircraft."

Awesome pictures, and the livery's looking really good. The pinkish background color seems to make the overall livery look rather plush!

Air India is to operate exclusive ‘business class only’ flights to the Gulf and southeast Asia.
The destinations include Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong. A detailed plan for the ‘J class only’ service is likely to be finalised after merger with IA, which is another story.
The aircraft to be used is the B737-800 aircraft. Seating will be just 50 or 60 seats.

these AI people have spread so much work for themselves that I find it hard to see a well organized strategy behind all these steps. Do they have answers to following questions
How are they going to merge AI & IC

What will happen to AIX and Alliance Air

How are they going to synchronize the freighter ambitions of both AI & IC.

Who is going to milk Gulf route more

There are four liveries right now: AI, IC, AIX & Alliance. Is there is going to just one, and if so then which one.

Is there any point in having large fleet of both B737 and A320. Or are they stuck with it

God bless people sorting out this mess.

Individually carriers might have freighter operations

Both continue to milk and fight for selling their milk in these routes like fools

Why? Why should a profitable airline like IC wait for that unprofessional shithole of an airline (Air India) to move? Does AI have the privilege here?

Wake up! Those days are over!

At a small station like PNQ also, IC and AI have been unable to share under-utilised resources of both airlines, mainly on union based issues I am told. And that too when PNQ is served by AIX aircraft, not legacy AI, though that is how it started.

Got a gut feeling that the red bottom and red engines on the new Air India aircraft means something. Fishing around .. . .

Aseem,
Most of your queries have their answer in what Thulasidass said recently in Trivandrum.
The GoI has told the two airlines to get on with the business of the merger in right earnest.
"The new identity and logos are not the major issue and will be sorted out later," Mr. Thulasidass said.

Hey guys AI have Wet Leased another A310 aircraft from a Turkish carrier, which has arrived late yesterday, will keep yoll updated as i get more info.

Also....
Since it went almost unnoticed i am posting part of the significance of the new AI colour scheme since IMO, it is very related to the thread.

The cream color and a deeper red complement convey the
warmth and hospitality that Air India is known for - with the gold
trimmings emphasising a premium product and service. The dynamic, bold
and gold coloured Centaur on its tail and engines whilst displaying
vitality -

Air India to name new fleet after States
Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi Feb. 11 You may have flown Emperor Narsimha Varman to London or been on board the Periyar while flying to Singapore with Air India. Now get ready to fly with the airline on board Andhra Pradesh or Jharkhand when travelling non-stop between Mumbai and San Francisco or on the Delhi-New York sector.

After naming its aircraft after rivers and emperors, Air India is now planning to name its 68 mint fresh Boeing fleet after the country's States. The first aircraft, a Boeing 777 is to be inducted in April this year, and the airline plans to follow the alphabetical order for naming them as they join the fleet. Although airline officials are tight-lipped, the first aircraft could well be called Andhra Pradesh. "While technically, there is nothing wrong in naming an aircraft after a State, we have decided to approach the States to seek their clearance before christening them," a senior AI official told Business Line.

The airline has ordered 23 Boeing 777 including eight Boeing 777-200 long range and 15 Boeing 777-300 extended range aircraft apart from 27 Boeing 787 aircraft. In addition, Air India Express, the 100 per cent subsidiary of AI, ordered 18 Boeing 737-700 aircraft to make up a deal valued at more than Rs 30,000 crore.

A decision on what name should be given to the other aircraft joining the fleet will be taken at a later date, officials added. While AI is to induct 68 aircraft, India has only 28 States and seven Union Territories.

Air India probably doesn't realise that there is nothing exclusive about the livery or details about the new fleet.

We guys here beat them to it. We got the exclusive pictures and close-ups of every thing. Even the seating plans!

Then i guess

VT-ALB = ARUNACHAL PRADESH
VT-ALC = ASSAM?? or ASOM?? Coz there a debate goin on to change the name of the state from assam to asom. (By the way anyone from North East here???)

Well i think the way names are changed these days be sure that some of the AIC birds won't be named as we expect they will be. Very Happy

Well guess what VT-ALD will be BIHAR!!!!!!! Rolling Eyes

I hope the plane only takes the name of the state and nothing else from there..

Wow - how silly. Now it gives the chance to states to stage protests about their name being on smaller or less glamorous aircraft!

Why do they have to be tight lipped when the world can already see the name in the photographs. Stupidity.

One question? How many AI babus(not staff but the high-up babus) actually know nything useful about the internet and has even a single one ever heard of a.net or similar?
