President Barack Obama flew into Sarasota, FL this morning from Miami, to dedicate the nation's largest solar power plant.

It was an awesome experience indeed. SRQ has only a chain link fence on one side of the airport that made spotting really great !
Interesting Facts:
One thing that stood out was how silent Air Force One is .... those engines are super quiet as compared to a regular 747. The approach caught most people by surprise.
The last time Air Force One landed in SRQ was on the morning of 9/11/2001 ... ironically, Bush was in town at a local school at the time of the attacks. Undoubtedly, Air Force One left well before schedule that morning. Luckily, this time it was like clockwork...Arr: 1045; Dep:1330.
The stairs for the President to disembark Air Force One had to be brought in from McDill AFB in Tampa. SRQ doesn't have stairs big enough for 747s, and I guess they do not use the jetway for the President. |
