Gulf Air’s union is calling on employees of the loss-making carrier to commence labour action to protest against pay increases for senior management amid planned lay-offs of 272 employees by the end of 2009 (Gulf News/Reuters, 23-Oct-2009). A sit-in is currently planned for 05-Nov-2009, potentially followed by strike action within two months.

Gulf Air Trade Union (GATU), which represents 1,400 of Gulf Air’s 5,000 employees, staged a one-hour sit-in on 03-Nov-2009 and 04-Nov-2009, calling for better work hours and pay and recruitment and termination processes (Maktoob, 04-Nov-2009).
