Foreign airlines may ply Indian skies

Quote:
Managerial and operational restrictions could apply, though board composition might be relaxed

NEW DELHI, MAR 13: The government may finally allow foreign airlines to acquire up to 26% stake in domestic passenger airlines. The foreign direct investment limit in domestic carriers might also be hiked to 74% from 49% now.

According to http://www.hindustantimes.in/news/181_1918916,00020016.htm
the plan is:

-100% FDI in seaplane and helicopter services.
-74% FDI in cargo operations and “non-scheduled operators” (charters etc)
- 100% per cent FDI for maintenance services.

According to this
http://worldtradereview.com/news.asp?pType=N&iType=C&iID=151&siD=10&nID=32208

"The Ministry has proposed allowing 100 FDI in sea plane, helicopter operations and setting up of Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. Besides, we are also considering whether to allow foreign airlines to pick up a stake of up to 49 per cent in cargo airline," the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, said here on the sidelines of an international conference.........

.....The thinking in the Government is to raise this 49 per cent limit to 74 per cent and possibly allow foreign airlines to pick up 49 per cent stake under the overall 74 per cent ceiling. These proposed changes in the FDI limits would be sent to the Union Cabinet shortly for their approval, Mr Patel added.
