BSNL offers you a very high speed at very low rates. You will get a 2 MBps connection for Rs. 500.00 per month with a download limit of 2.5 per month. Additional downloads are available at Rs. 0.80 per MB. You can also opt for the same plan by paying Rs. 5000.00 per year.

If you're going with BSNL, make sure you buy the Type 4 modem (with wireless and a 4 port ethernet). BSNL is definitely the cheapest option today and is a very good option.

I use Airtel, and find it to be very reliable and a rock solid connection. Unfortunately they have not cut prices to match BSNL.

Steer away from the thugs at Hathway and Sify - they both suck big time.

With both BSNL or Airtel, you need to get a landline from that company. Hence if you choose BSNL, you'll need to get a BSNL landline first. Similarly with Airtel.

In terms of the ease of setup/follow needed, Airtel is miles ahead of BSNL. They will have officers come over to your place to fill the form, take the payment, and then to add the connection.

To book a new line with Airtel dial 41112345. To book a new line with BSNL - get the form from their website: http://www.bangaloretelecom.com/forms/form_new06.zip . Then you have to go to the customer service center to submit the form. The BSNL call center is 1500 (only from BSNL phones) - they should be able to help you with information.

Airtel gave me a minimum waiting period of 1 month as they do not have any extra capacity in my area.

BSNL also mentioned a waiting period of about 2 months.

So instead of waiting, went forward and took the Airtel data card.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Don't give up - make sure you are on a waiting list and get a broadband conenction. In real terms it's about 5-10 times faster than the data cards from Airtel/Reliance/Tatas etc.

Nimish is correct, its worth waiting. My friend has Airtel Data card, and he is not at all satisfied with the speed.

Regards,

Tell me about it. The speeds are absolutely dismal.

I plan to take the Airtel connection whenever they add extra capacity.
