Praful Patel has admitted in Parliament that thefts at (intl) airports in India have risen by 200%
But the rule applies anywhere. When in public areas, be extra careful and after screening of hand baggage, do a double check of valuables.
Precious stuff always in hold baggage.
But seeing the way airportsd are today and the class of pax, am not surprised that even the clothes they wear are flicked.

Thefts at international airports across the country have increased by over 200 per cent during the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday, says a UNI report.
Reply to a question by National Conference MP Abdul Rashid Shaheen, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said the number of thefts reported in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were 89, 103 and 208 respectively.
Patel said several steps were being taken to counter such crimes, including the installation of surveillance cameras for round-the-clock monitoring of staff and passengers, deployment of security personnel by different airlines and increased vigil by police. |

Un-reconfrmed info - on one glorious day at PNQ, a few weeks ago, about a dozen mobile phones were whacked from the X-Ray area within minutes. Some of the pax got together and started dialling their own numbers with the help of other pax, and were able to spot a culprit. The CISF moved fast, too, and blocked boarding for a short while.
Turned out it was a group of - you guessed it - young people and their hi-jinks. Only these were'nt your regular college going young people, so the matter had to be hushed up.
Invest in hand bags that can be zipped or locked, that's the best advice you can get here, and if you must carry expensive electronic items - then get a distinctive laptop case. |

I generally keep my mobile phone in my handbag before clearing xray and security check. Dont really trust the "keep your valuables in the tray" system.

Don't want it flicked !! With the rise in the number of travellers and the kinda passenger profile, our airports are nothing less than a fish market...
