Nice, a Dragon Wings stand. Who knows, there might be some affiliation.

Almost looks like it has 707 engines!

As far as Air India models go, still waiting/wishing for:

747-237B (upper deck J Class windows)
A310-304

Either 400 scale (Aeroclassics) or 500 scale (Herpa). Herpa has done an AI A310 already in the 500 scale, but it would be great to upgrade to the latest mould.

Before any updated 742s I'd like to see a 743.

Would love to see an A310 as well.

Sadly, Dragon never followed up with the 1:400 AI A310 sample model.

LOL Razz Yes, I think so, it's made by a company in Bombay called Speedage. I guess this is what they sell at the traffic lights in some parts of town. It was on eBay for some ridiculous price. Needless to say, it didn't sell.

Speaking of Indian made models, does anyone know if they still make die-cast airplane models in India? As a kid I remember seeing a few of them, I think they were made by Milton. I wonder if they are still available.

A lot of these error models are sold on Mumbai streets.

I guess only persons knowing how an aircraft looks will know the details & scale.

New release from Aeroclassics - an AI 707-320 Combi !

1:400 Hangar Club Release
Air India 707-320C , VT-DVB "Kamet" 1:400 scale

VT-DVB "Kamet" holds the distinction of being the only Air India aircraft to be hijacked - at Seychelles on Nov. 26, 1981. I hope to get this model to add to the collection of Air India aircraft that my Dad flew .... and to dedicate to a very close family friend, Capt. B.S. Sandhu, who was the captain of AI 224 when she was hijacked!

The SCD on the 707 does look great, especially with the old 707 livery.

All the Air India 707s in 1:400 scale.

707-400 VT-DJI "Nanda Devi"

707-400 VT-DJK "Everest"

707-300 VT-DVA "Annapoorna"

707-300C VT-DVB "Kamet"

I'm assuming you meant the '60s 707 livery .... the above IS the 70s livery, first introduced with the first 747-200. There were no 747s in '60s livery.

I'm assuimg you attempted to recreate an Air India 747-300M. While I don't intend to rain on your parade, the above is actually a 747-400D (short range 744 sans winglets for the Japanese market, with same wing length as the 744). Air India didn't operate the 744D, so at best this would be a fantasy model. Infact the absence of the SCD would make it an all the more accurate fantasy model (I don't believe there ever was a 744D-Combi, or 744DM!).
That being said, yours is an excellent attempt to create the long awaited Air India 747-300M in 1:400. I'd add that to my collection in a heartbeat, if only for nostalgic reasons, given that my old man operated her first flight into Tokyo back in '88.

Thanks for your comments. I am aware of the fact that the 743 and 744 do not share the same wing (the latter with winglets has a wingspan thats nearly 6m longer).Ok having said that, there's nothing much I could possibly do to make it more accurate. A few things I am sure you would be aware of : The wtb fairings on 743 post line number 709 was same as 744.(EPW was 711). Hence to an observer, the wing roots would not be too different. The 743s we had also used the same engines as some 744s and hence the newer pylon design. Our 743s did not have the characteristic VHF aerials that other 747 Classics had, again because of being late builds. So,while being slightly wrong due to having been made out of a 744, it is infact still a close rendition of how the AI 743s were. I wish some manufacturer took note and released one of these in the mainstream market.
Thanks

PS : If I am not wrong, the 400D has the same wingspan as a 200/300

Here's a blast from the past.
Air India Boeing 747 (-200) by Maxwell Mini, circa 1980. Made in Calcutta, India.

The latest addition to my Air India fleet.

Aviation400 747-237 VT-EBE "Shahjehan"

Great model, but with one huge flaw - the name "Shahjehan" is printed in English and Arabic instead of English and Hindi.
