New Delhi: The government has got speed sensors of all Airbus A330s in service with Indian carriers replaced.
Though investigations are still on, faulty speed sensors are believed to have been one of the reasons for the May 31 crash of Air France’s A330 over mid-Atlantic.
Air France pilots are learnt to have reported problems with speed sensors like varying speed readings. Following the crash, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had called a meeting of Indian carriers flying the A330 — Jet, Kingfisher and Air India — along with Airbus representatives to assess the situation.
Accurate pitot tube readings are vital to maintain the right speed.
