Can you tell me how you managed to get into cockpit and take this snap? What method you used to convince the pilot to allow you in?

Coz yesterday while I was flying by Jet lite from Delhi-BLR,during our flight I requested one of the Cabin Crew to seek permission from the pilot to allow me inside the cockpit. But the pilot denied permission bcoz of security reason.

Is it tough these days to enter into cockpit of any airlines after 9/11 attack?

You have to know the pilots...In this case...the captain is a good friend of mine..and i happen to loan him my camera for a few days...In India..everything is impossible...a Indigo pilot refused to fill out my log book even after i showed him my AA employee badge...but on the other hand I got to fly FD jumpseat on an Air India flight from HKG-DEL in 07 because the captain and i happen to have and mutual contact by sheer coincidence. My aviation Law professor who is also a AA 767 captain told me how to talk to pilots if u want entry into the FD.But entry during CRZ is still a no-no in the US.

Regulations out here forbid Jumpseat travel in Flight for non Company employees unless on official duty for that airline.......Thats the rule.

Mate, how r the American FAs approachable when you give them your log book and ask them to tell the captain to get it signed, i mean would they be as approachable if you dint have an Airline employe badge, especially given your ethnicity

I am all about following the rules....i wanted to take my camera in but the chief steward ask me not to do so....so i left it out side...my log book does show the above mentioned event.

I have had my log book filled so much i am now on my second 50 page book and i show the FAs my book as ask i could talk to the pilots before we take off or after we land...i am usually the last one to get of the plane as well and i make sure i wear some thing with aviation related ..like my 777 t shirt or airline caps or something .....and over time i have learned to changed my accent according to who i am talking to...i.e desi or white...and most of all..just got to be honest.

Well guys, from what I have gone through last three posts,I'am getting a sinking feeling that I won't be able to get into the cockpit as a common passenger.

It looks like we have shown the white flag to terrorists as they have instilled fear into our security forces mind, that they have to resort to such a harsher rule for the sake of safety of the people. It is a infringement on my freedom to enjoy flying and seeing what it is like from the cockpit...

I understand that National security is the top most priority on anyones mind but that doesn't mean that it should come at a cost of our freedom. We are living in a Democracy.

So its best to do it before take off or after landing itself right?

Pre departure the Crew will be under pressure.Best is post arrivals to get your logbook signed. Then too it depends on the Individual crew,if they would want to or not.

@ G-BYGB.....There are much worse thing to be worried about than not being able to get into the FD,but you just have to ask as either as you board or deplane...Indian captains will mostly say no but if you have a white captain...he will mostly say yes....

@Karan

I usually ask the FA to give it to the pilots before we take off and i will collect it when we land or just do it when we land if the pilots have time...i also compliment the pilots on a superb landing or the departure.

and What MEL said as well

I have some 60 odd pages myself, about 10 international flights and the rest domestic. None of the Captains have ever said no, one enthusiastic Capt. even allowed me to jumpseat from descent to landing, one printed out the flight plan and some other information and sent it, some have even given me their card! But there are just a hand few of these, most of them will just sign it and send it back! Permission to enter the FD has also mostly been granted all the time except twice when by the time I got up there the Capt and F/O had already left, the F/A bluntly says NO! and sometimes if I know there is a quick turn around, I just don't ask cause they are really busy with weight and balance and clearances, etc

I came across this shot of a 767 in Sahara's livery, taken in Phoenix back in 2005:

This plane was stored in 2007 and is currently with United.

After S2, she went to Oceanair (Brazil); and then on to Dniproavia (Ukraine) where she still is.
