|
|
A query was posted to me abt the student concession available to Students studying away from their home towns and want to travel to their home towns in Jet/Sahara/Indian
Question is how do a student avail the student concession on flight tickets?
Forms are available at various websites for download, which authenticate that the student is indeed studying in a college. It can be validated by the institute head. Now the question is after the form is validated, can anyone book the tickets online? Or They they have to go to the airline authorized travel agents to get the tickets ?
Or first book tickets online and claim the rebate at the airport ?
Whats the exact procedure for it ?
Appreciate your kind attention and help.

Lambu ji its most likely that the student discounts are only offered on the full fares, by which you might end up paying more than the already discounted seats you get on the net. So not worth the trouble.

What I hear abt is that the student gets a 50% discount on the BASE fare. And its not mentioned anywhere that it shall be on the FULL fare, in the concession forms

I've not heard of anyone taking a student discount for years now I agree with AKL - it's definitely not worth the hassle, unless it's for a sector where only full fare tickets are available, and there's no LCC competition.
The procedure used to be:
1. Go to IC office, get the form
2. Fill it and give to your school/college principal for signatures
3. Go back to the IC office and they will issue the discounted ticket
4. Retain the concession form copy - it might be needed during checkin |

Lambu saab, that BASE fare is the non-discounted BASE fare. The reason I say so is because last year I was travelling with my uncle who is in the Navy, by virtue of which he isalso entitled to a discount. But that discount was also on the full fare.
But def call the airline up and ask them. If I am not mistaken though IT gives a few genuine discounts, although I think its only for the armed forces.

Lambu-ji
As you have said the forms are available as downloads.
Best bet would be for you to contact the nearest airline office
IA offers concession for:
Armed Forces Concession
Cancer Patient
Child Passenger
Senior Citizen
Students
Jet offers for:
Student concession
Senior Citizen concession
Cancer Patients
Blind Passengers
Armed Forces concession
Youth fare
Locomotor disability concession
Paramount has a few categories, mainly for senior citizen, but is a terrible racket, as it depends on the time of booking where they have the bucket concept of fares. You could end up paying more!!
Kingfisher also can be checked. |

Nice of you to bring this topic up, Lambuji
I think after you have found some conclusive answers, you must share both your findings and the links wherein others can benefit and thank you. |

You used to get a student concession form from IC (when I was in school in the 90s), which had to be filled and certified from the school authorities. Don't remember much more about it. _________________ My Flickr photos
