Does anyone have close up pics like these, of Air India 747-200s, taken from the boarding gate / jetway, preferably showing the aircraft name? All I have are Emperor Ashoka & Emperor Shahjehan, and was hoping to get a few more of the old birds.

747-237, This is for you.
VT-EGB Mahendra Varman had a fuel leak at CDG (Right Wing tip), was grounded for a night. Then flew to DEL and had a Landing gear fault here too. Was grounded for another 9 Hrs. Shot in 2001 from the DEL T2's Circular Window. Scanned and heavily edited. (Pardon me for the poor Editing)

This picture appeared in connection with an Air India news report in June 2000, so source says that taking a wild shot, as the upper deck windows are not clear, it's either "Shahjehan" (VT-EBE) or "Akbar" (VT-EDU). |

Not exactly boarding gate, but a nice view of the name.

And here's one of Emperor Chandragupta. This pic was taken a few days short of 35 years ago, on Feb 6, 1978, after she arrived in BOM on her delivery flight.

Thanks for posting this picture. I have flown on her in the late 80's to Bangkok when I was in my early teens. Although the flight routing was the worst I would say, here how it went:
Bombay - Delhi - Bangkok - Hong Kong - Tokyo - Osaka and Back the same way.

Another view of Narasimha Varman at the gate, and a year since the last pic. This time with a red dot on the nosecone instead of black, and deep blue "eyeshadow" instead of black. Again, not a -200, but still.

Here's another one of Krishna Deva Raya.
My sister and I spent a lot of time looking at AI 747s from this angle, trying to spot our Dad at work, before getting on board. The feeling of awe is best described in this USPS stamp released in 1999.
