My Father, father-in-law and my 4 year old son went to the show yesterday. This is a mini-TR, based on what my dad and son told me on the phone this morning (I was not able to go as I'm away from BLR).
Dad: Traffic was fine, the show was well managed, parking etc. no problems. He said since it was organized by the forces (Air Force I guess), everything was in order (he compared it to the arrangements for the republic day parade in DEL).
Son: I saw an aeroplane flying "ulta" (upside down). The pilot was also "ulta". And I saw another aeroplane touch the runway and take off again - he was confused on whether to land or not .
My son was very very excited (and this was when I spoke to him at 10 pm, he'd come back by 6 pm) when I spoke to him, and said he wanted to go next year also! |

Ratan Tata to fly again Friday, this time F-18
Bangalore, Feb 8 (IANS) Having touched the skies Thursday by co-piloting the F-16 of the Lockheed Martin at the Aero India here, Tata group chairman Ratan Tata is set to fly once again Friday - now an F-18 Super Hornet of Boeing.
A top Boeing official confirmed to IANS late Thursday that Tata had accepted its request to fly the Super Hornet at the international air-show around 9.30 a.m. as a co-pilot, just as he did in the afternoon in an F-16.
'At this point of time, Tata has accepted our invitation to fly F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Friday morning at the air-show. He spoke a few hours with us Wednesday here. He is truly excited about flying the world's most capable multi-role fighter,' Boeing Corporation vice-president for global strike system and integrated defence system (IDS) Cris Shadwick said from the Yelahanka air base of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on telephone.
Asked about the details of the sortie, including the name of pilot, Shadwick said they (details) were being worked out and preparations were underway to make Tata pilot the combat and proven fifth generation strike fighter.
US-based global aerospace major Boeing is also pitching in F-18 for the IAF order of acquiring 126 multi-role combat aircraft to replace the latter's Russian-built MiG-21 fleet.
With built-in versatility, the Super Hornet offers a suite of integrated and networked system, providing an enhanced inter-operability, total force support for the combatant commander as well as troops on ground.
'The F-18 has day-and-night strike capability, with precision-guided weapons, anti-air warfare system, maritime strike, reconnaissance forward air control. It is powered by two General Electric F414-GE 400 engines, with unlimited angle of attack and care-free firing qualities for highly effective combat capability,' Shadwick said.
The F-18 also provides the optimum value of advanced technology and lower life-cycle costs to help to ensure security and affordability for years to come.
In the afternoon, Tata flew the multi-role combat aircraft F-16 as a co-pilot.

Crash casts a pall over Aero India show
Bangalore, Feb 9 (IANS) Midway through Aero India 2007, an embarrassing crash cast a shadow over what has been touted as the country's biggest air show ostensibly meant to highlight India's achievements in the aeronautical sphere.
How and why an indigenously designed and built intermediate jet trainer (IJT) crashed Thursday right in front of a fairly large audience is not exactly clear.
There are, in fact, three versions of what happened. All of them are eyewitness accounts, but the difference is that the first two are from ground level and the other from a height of some 20 feet.
The ground level versions have it that the aircraft was about to take off and that either a tyre burst or a cockpit canopy malfunction forced it to veer off the runway.
However, some people who were watching the takeoff from a building adjacent to the air control tower (ATC) said the aircraft had just taken off when it apparently lost power and its rear portion hit the ground.
Thankfully, the pilot Baldev Singh escaped with minor injuries and a court of enquiry that has been ordered into the crash will probe why it happened.

Hi Guyz, I happened to be at the airshow today (9th), I would say, it is better than AeroIndia 2005. The flying displays, the static displays were all great and the stalls ofcourse (Photos coming soon), and today was also a great day as I happened to meet one of our member's (Bharghavi), very nice person.
Well, i'll upload the pics asap and yes, the videos as well.

Some news taken from an article:
Raytheon has already sold five jets in three days and the numbers could rise.
Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel, announced on Tuesday clearance for private operators to set up new regional airports, “ built on privately owned lands, within permissible civil aviation parameters."
Sukhoi declares that newer Indian airlines like Air Deccan and Kingfisher have expressed interest in the Superjet 100, and that there will be signings soon.
An unidentified Indian airline, says Efimov, will be signing up later this month in Moscow for five Tu-204Cs with an option for ten more.
Now Kingfisher has announced a joint venture MRO, which will come up next year in partnership with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and a foreign partner. Deccan Aviation has announced the setting up of Deccan Technical Services to meet its own MRO demand.
Air Deccan has announced a partnership with French manufacturer ATR for a training centre in Bangalore, with the latest generation of flight simulators. This will service Air Deccan pilots as well as other carriers.
