Cool pictures - it's not very clear quality - but it's evident that there's a lot of work being done.

JJ - c'mon yaar, it's a miracle we're getting a new airport, with a plan for 4 runways. It will start with one runway, and then they'll add additional runways in time.

Hmm Things taking shape, can't wait for the new airports to open. BTW is BLR going to open with 2 runways initially or one.

BTW nice pics himmat.

Will there be a parallel rwy to the existing one? If yes which side left or right?
Also although pictures are of not so high quality as Nimish pointed out, they are quite nice.
Thanx for sharing

Nimish Maalik,

Yaar am not against new airports, magar kya existing ones cannot be upgraded, and given more additional benefits and made into a more usage functional place was my point of view.

But four runways, definately gets the cake Laughing

Unfortunately that's definitely not possible with the current BLR (HAL) airport, the place is really cramped and tiny, with zero scope for an additional runway. Even parking slots are at their peak right now.

You can see that land has been cleared on the left hand side for the parallel rwy. I have marked it.

All 4 runways are supposed to be in the 27/09 orientation (east-west).

It all depends on the wind conditions at the location. Having parallel runways helps in simultaneous operations, and if the average wind throughout the year is suitable to a particular direction (like it is at BLR - 09/27 works fine throughout the year), then I think it's probably better to have all runways in one direction?

Also, with paralled runways you have better utilization of space.

Apologies gentlemen, it turns out that I was wrong - the BIAL is planned with only 2 runways (1 initially and the second later on). I'm guessing i got confused with the profusion of taxiways that I'd seen in the past Embarassed

More details of the airport at the Bangalore airport website: http://www.bialairport.com

Here's one conceptualization of the master plan:

This shows only 2 runways, both in 09/27 orientation.

Here's a more detailed graphic of the master plan:

Thanks for the pics Nimish. I think two runways should be enugh initially. Although not in the masterplan I guess there seems to be enough space to construct another runway of reqd. Isn't there?

Cheers

I would think so - there seems to be room on the north for another runway.

Interesting point on their website is that though the runway is being built with the ICAO "E" standard (747), the taxiways etc. are all "F" compliant (380). I wonder why they did not make the runway also 380 compliant (though I'm sure the 380 will be able to land on this runway as well).

Nimish I remember reading somewhere that although 'F' is recommended by ICAO. 'E' can and is allowed to handle the 380.

Cheers

Looks nice, seems like good utilization of space.

Originally when Nimish said 4 runways, I thought of LAX Very Happy
