PUNE: National Defence Academy (NDA) at Pune, the premier tri-service training institution of the country, will organise a number of events to celebrate its 60 years of glorious service to the nation and to the Armed Forces in January next year.

In this Diamond Jubilee Year, the Air Force Training Team at the NDA, which trains the Air Force Cadets, has planned to organise three air expeditions to various finishing academies of the services across the country.

The air expedition was today flagged off from NDA by the Deputy Commandant, Major General B S Grewal. After the flag-off, all three aircraft will fly out to their destinations as follows - The first aircraft, captained by Sqn Ldr Varun Choudhary, will reach Air Force Academy (AFA) on the same day, with Cdt L Sanga of Delta Sqn. The second aircraft, captained by Wg Cdr M Y Marathe, OiC AFTT, with Cdt GS Karki of India Sqn, will reach ‘INS Garuda’ Kochi tomorrow after flying via Goa (INS Hansa & INS Mandovi) and Bangalore.

The crew will visit the Naval Academy and the training ships for interaction with the Naval Cadets. The aircraft will return to NDA on November 8, with Cdt G Kumawat of Golf Sqn.

The third aircraft, captained by Wg Cdr C S Raghuraman, will fly to Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, via Indore, Bhopal, Lucknow and Hindon (near New Delhi). The aircraft will return to Hindon after visiting Dehradun on November 5, where the expedition will be flagged off by Air Marshal SC Mukul AVSM VM VSM CISC HQ IDS. The representatives from the Service HQ of the Army, Navy and Air Force will attend the ceremony.

For the return trip, Wg Cdr A S Dange will take over the captaincy of the aircraft and will fly back to NDA, following the same route in reverse order. Cdt A Tiwari of Charlie Sqn will be the co-pilot till Lucknow, Cdt S K Singh of Delta Sqn will be the co-pilot till Bhopal and Cdt S Azhar of Oscar Sqn will be the co-pilot of the last leg till NDA. My father passed out of NDA from Juliet Sqdn and then spend 4 years with AFTT. I was born there and have fond memories of NDA.

Cheers
