Canadian flight-simulator maker CAE Inc. said Friday that it is creating an aviation training center in India with capacity to train up to 1,000 pilots a year.
The company said an initial investment of $20 million will likely include a partner. CAE is currently evaluating its partnership options.
The center will be part of the CAE-Airbus cooperation and will initially offer pilot, cabin crew and maintenance training as well as flight operations support on the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737. It will also serve the CAE Global Academy, a new training alliance focusing on the global shortage of pilots.
"Listening to our customers, we realized the strategic importance of opening a training center in India. The Indian aviation industry is growing rapidly and faces significant pilot shortages," Jeff Roberts, CAE's group president of innovation and civil training and services, said in a statement.
The facility, which will be located near Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli, is expected to open by the end of the year.
U.S.-traded shares of CAE added a penny to $9.74 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange. _________________
