Emirates temporarily withdraws A380 after engineering delay
By David Kaminski-Morrow
Middle Eastern carrier Emirates has withdrawn its Airbus A380 from service for the time being after engineering work on the aircraft overran.
Emirates took delivery of the jet, the first of 58 for the Dubai-based operator, at the end of July and has been using it on services to New York JFK.
"Our A380 was scheduled for training use in between commercial flights," says an Emirates spokesperson. "There is also planned engineering work which is taking longer to complete than expected.
"Our teams are working hard to minimise any inconvenience caused to our passengers. Our A380 will be deployed on commercial service again as soon as possible."
The carrier has not specified the nature of the engineering work, nor given an indication as to how long it expects the 489-seat aircraft to be unavailable.
It is to use Boeing 777-300ERs in place of the double-deck aircraft while the work is being completed. _________________

Imagine the disappointment if you showed up for an A380 flight only to have a 77W waiting. I'd be pretty upset actually. Also, how full are the flights? They would have to bump a few passengers if it is very full. _________________ "My longest flight was 18 hours - Singapore to New York on a very slow Airbus" - Tom Brokaw |

Does anyone know what's wrong with the first EK 380? Pretty weird that it has to be pulled out of service for so long! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

(Sorry if i hurt the sentiments.. Baba guruji is a fictional name and carries no resemblance of anyone dead or alive or somewhere between both worlds) |

Now imagine your disappointment if you hold a First Class ticket on an A380 flight, and you are dying to have a shower at 35000ft! _________________ Boeing makes planes. Airbus makes videogames! |

Emirates A380 won't fly until Sept 12
by Andy Sambidge
Monday, 08 September 2008
REPAIR JOB: Emirates have suspended A380 flights until September 12 so engineers can fix electrical problem. (Getty Images)Emirates has suspended operations of the Airbus SAS A380 airliner on its New York route until September 12 as engineers work on an electrical fault, the airline announced on Monday.
The airline, which took delivery of its first A380 in late July and began flying the double-decker aircraft in August, is serving the route with Boeing Co. 777-300ER aircraft, Dubai-based Emirates said today in a statement.
The carrier will resume A380 flights with twice-a-week service to New York, rather than three a week, to permit training flights and completion of engineering work "which is taking longer to complete than expected", Bloomberg reported.
The 550-seat A380, which surpassed Boeing's 747 as the world's largest passenger aircraft when it began flying commercially last year, is being delivered more than two years late because of difficulties in installing cabin wiring.
A spokesman at Toulouse, France-based Airbus weren't immediately available to comment on the Emirates statement.
The electrical fault on the Emirates plane ``was noticed at the end of a training mission, when the aircraft was parked in front of the hangars,'' said an official at the Dubai-based airline, providing no further details.
Flight International also says the same thing. _________________

Emirates announced it would resume A380 operations on the Dubai-New York JFK route on 12-Sep-08 (Gulf News, 08-Sep-0 . The carrier temporarily suspended A380 operations (replacing it with B777-300ER equipment), due to longer than expected maintenance and engineering work.
