It is not that bad, Monitor to monitor the brightness varies and Monitor calibration is a pain to adjust brightness, gamma and contrast and usually LCD panels are brighter in my experience by default.

Great interior shot, as usual, Vivek!
Usual question: are there powerports in Y?
AI and IT do not have them in their domestic product, while 9W has them in its international product (I do not know about IT here, but as per TRs here, AI's international product does not have powerports in Y).
How many 9W 738s have PTVs? Are they all new ones with winglets, or have some older planes also been fitted with them? What about the 739(s) - the long ones without winglets?
At one time, there were two PTV-fitted planes - 738s IIRC, with them moslty deployed on the DEL-BOM sector.
Thanks, Sumantra.

Thanks Sumantra for your comments! Smile

There are no power ports in Y class.

All the new 9W 737s have PTVs. I am not aware of PTVs in the older 737s. Also, all the newer 73Gs and 738s have winglets. Some older 738s have winglets.

The 739s do not have PTVs installed.

The 744 is way off centerline (I know it's because of the turning radius - but still looks funny.)

Yash, the recent Sanchi (the first 744 in the new colour scheme) was an ex-MH plane on lease (as was the previous one - an ex-KE bird), and has possibly gone back to MH.
A300s still there - yes I see them in pics from BOM spotters. 742s - which ones?
The 742s then would have been ground for quite a few years - 2, at least, right?
Cheers, Sumantra.

742 ?? Unless I'm in a time warp, the 742s stopped flying in 2006; the last of them were turned to dust last year, and there are no 742 hulls at BOM.
The IA A300s have been grounded for a few months. I presume they are stored at BOM till AI can figure out what to do with them. And there seems to be one 743 (EPX) grounded as well, with her titles removed, though we haven't seen any pics of her.

Yash, I'll basically echo what 747-237 has written. EPX was Narasimhavarman, and EPW Shivaji is possibly grounded at Narita - both 743s, not 742s. I too had thought that I had last seen grounded 742s in 2006 at BOM. Further, I do not see how the new Sanchi would be any different from the new liveried Ajanta, for instance - apart from the name, that is.
Yash: what about the long (ago) promised pictures of the Be-30/32 demonstrator from Kharkov? Of course, it may not be very convenient for you, and further, most people may not be interested in a statistical oddity which never really caught on, given the success of the Let-410.

A question for Vivek Manvi: I had thought that Agra was the only 744 that had been refurbished with PTVs. This had been confirmed not just on this forum (and possibly A.net, too) - some FAs also told me this when I had asked them.
Vivek, some of your pictures on myaviation.net show Elephanta having PTVs inside.
Can you shed more light on this?

Edited almost immediately after sending the post - on the realisation that I have my usual question ready:
Vivek - does a refurbished 744 have powerports in Y? Seems a bit unlikely, given that the new products (777s, 321s and 319s) do not.
Thanks, Sumantra.

Yet another beautiful picture (the Paramount JungleJet) begets yet another question, Vivek - where did you click this one from at MAA?
Have you, or anyone else in this forum flown Paramount? Any interior pics?
Are there PTVs, and powerports?
Thanks, Sumantra.

Oops....very sorry i wasactually talking abt the 743....my mistake...and abt the Be-30/32....the ones i showed you were the best pics i could get as they are parked in a remote corner of the airport....and by chance if the militsiya(cops) see me they'll screw me big time......But still ill try as the airport is 10 mins from where i stay. Smile....its a non-scheduled airport so no info on the departures and arrivals...if i am lucky i may catch some very rare and beautiful antonovs as it their manufacturing plant. So far this is the best i have seen here

@ Sumantra - here's my reply to your questions.

Elephanta - VT-AIQ was not an AI owned 744. It was leased from SQ. That is why it had PTVs.

I doubt that AI would have power-ports in its re-furbished 744s. Since the other aircraft do not have it, it would be odd just to have those in one aircraft.

The Paramount Embraer was clicked from a spot on the final approach to Runway 07. I haven't flown on Paramount yet, as most of their flights are cancelled of late Confused But I do want to fly them atleast once - to get a taste of the E-jet.

vt-ala: notwithstanding your absolutely brilliant photograph, VT-EPW Shivaji is possibly no longer in service. You may have missed out the post by KCM on the Air India thread part 12. What a sad coincidence, that you captured the beauty in its glory just two days before the fateful incident.
KCM's original post has the URL:
http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5111
and I have also (shamelessly, without his permission) reproduced it, below.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Update
Nariman Point has reluctantly acknowledged that "Shivaji" Air India Boeing 747-300, VT-EPW as flight AI307 from Narita to Delhi with 182 passengers and crew, suffered engine No 4 (outer right) failure some time after takeoff.
The details are that there was a loud bang and parts of the engine compressor and turbine disintegrated and were destroyed/fell out onto a parking lot, in turn destroying the windshield of a car and its hood. The cowling was also damaged.
The commander immediately declared an emergency and returned to Narita. The jumbo landed safely after dumping all the fuel.
The Japanese Government and the Japanese Ministry of Railway and Aviation have also started investigations into the incident, which the Japanese Government has called as serious.
This happened on September 21.
What a way for "Shivaji" to to bow out.

Vivek - some more questions concerning Elephanta. Since it was an SQ bird,
was the IFE the AI standard one, with no active controls on the PTVs, or did it have
a separate PTV-based IFE when you flew it last?
Second, did it have powerports in Y, being an SQ product - or at that time, did SQ not
have powerports in Y as a standard on their fleet?

I remember flying VT-SCD, the AI(IC) 319 - this has powerports in Y at the back of the
seats, but they have been disabled, or they do not work. I flew this in Nov last year:
DEL-BOM-IXB, and back.
Thanks, Sumantra.

Elephanta had the standard AI non-AVOD IFE. The screens - of SQ vintage were quite tiny. And no, there were no power-ports. SQ too did not have powerports in those days.
