According to this, the Indian Navy is considering the P-8A Poseidon.

The P8A Poseidon is a longrange antisubmarine warfare, antisurface
warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft capable
of broadarea, maritime and littoral operations.A derivative of the NextGeneration 737800,
the P8A combines superior performance and reliability with an advanced mission system that ensures maximum interoperability in the future battle space.

So the Bears will be gone soon I reckon.

Yeah, its time the Indian Navy replaced its ageing TU-95 fleet. The P-8 Poseidon specs look good.

What remains to be seen is the type of weapons the Indian Navy decides to equip them with should they decide to buy it.

Vivek, the Bears in the Naval Aviation Wing are Tu-142 long range maritime patrol aircraft, not the Tu-95 bomber. There are many differences even in the overall appearance - just check out Jane's All the World's Aircraft.
The endurance, power and speed are big plus points for the Tu-142, while
the avionics would possibly be a minus point. but are the avionics really the original Russian ones? What is the ground truth on the fuel consumption of the Kuznetsov engines vis-a-vis 2 P&W ones on the 738 derivative?
Cheers, Sumantra.

Navy is looking to acquire 8 aircrafts. These may be in addition to IL38's. The Tu's will stay for sometime coz no aircraft currently has the range that comes close to Albatross. Airbus's version is also being looked into.

Cheers

Sam is correct. It is IL38. It is based on the airframe of IL18.

Cheers

...and one of the main visual differences on first sight is the wing placed far ahead as compared to the Il-18.
Cheers, Sumantra.
