| Kingfisher has suspended its BLR-PNQ-AMD-CCU-AMD-PNQ-NLR run. However the PNQ-IDR-RPR-CCU service is still active on the ATR. |

Hey everyone today i saw a chopper owned by Global Vectra Helicorp(EC-155) having Kingfisher and UB group stickers. REgistrations have been changed to VT-SVM, looks like its dedicated to siddharth vijay mallya, mallya's son. Seems like a short term lease to me. _________________ Learning never stops, the desire to learn however does. |

Okay, it's one week of August gone already - is there any word on IT starting those non-stop international flights from BLR to SFO, LHR, YVR, JFK, MEX, GRU, SYD etc that Mallya promised last month?
He said he would start by the end of August, right? |

Bird hit: Narrow escape for Venkaiah Naidu
9 Aug 2008, 0659 hrs IST,TNN
VIJAYAWADA: Sixty-five passengers, including BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, had a providential escape here on Friday when the Hyderabadbound Kingfisher Airlines flight suffered a bird-hit at the Gannavaram airport when it was ready for take-off .
The pilot controlled the flight within a few seconds after a big bird, reportedly an eagle, crashed into top front portion of the pilot's cockpit at around 11.30 am when the plane was all set to take flight from the airport, about 20 km from here. He applied brakes and brought the flight to a halt.
Union minister Daggubati Purandareswari's husband and MLA Venkateswara Rao and Chodavaram MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao were among the VIPs in the flight when the incident happened. "It was a great escape for all of us. The flight crew did a fantastic job," Srinivasa Rao told 'TOI.'
Though the passengers heard a loud noise when the flight was on the runway, they did not gauge the impact till the flight crew informed them about the bird-hit .
With the mirror of the cockpit completely damaged, the airlines cancelled the scheduled flight.
The airlines later arranged a special flight to take the passengers to Hyderabad, which reached the airport at around 2.30 pm - almost three hours after the accident.
Venkaiah Naidu, who left for Hyderabad by train, said: "For a second I thought it was a failure of the hydraulic system . The flight was brought back and we were asked to disembark . Had the flight taken off, it would have been a big tragedy. The pilot acted with the presence of mind."
Venkateswara Rao went by road while Srinivasa travelled in the special flight along with others.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Bird-hit grounds Vijayawada-Hyderabad flight
Venkaiah Naidu who was to catch a Delhi flight in the evening at Hyderabad, cancelled his visit and left for Nellore by car.
The MLAs too left for Hyderabad immediately in their own cars, while the stranded passengers had a harrowing experience for sometime due to the indifferent attitude of airport officials.
A passenger said they were not even offered tea and even if they wanted to make their own arrangements to reach Hyderabad, the airport officials did not return their baggage leaving them stranded.
Some of the passengers who had to catch an evening flight to Singapore were the worried lot.
After heated arguments with officials, the latter arranged transport to some passengers.

Bird hit forces plane to abort take off
The pilot applied brakes, aborted take off and taxied it back to the parking bay, they said. The incident occurred around 12.30 pm, police said.
After repairs were carried out, the plane resumed its journey at around 15.30 hours with 38 passengers on board.
"The plane had covered three fourth of the runway when the pilot applied brakes. For a moment, I thought there was some hydraulic system failure. The plane was brought back. An announcement was made and we were asked to disembark," Naidu told PTI.
"Had the plane taken off, it would have been a big tragedy. But the pilot was alert and acted with presence of mind," he said.
Naidu, who has had similar experience a couple of times, proceeded to his native Nellore district by train. _________________

Kingfisher aircraft tailskids while landing at IGI
Zeenews Bureau
New Delhi, Aug 09: Passengers of a Delhi bound Kingfisher flight from Jaipur had a miraculous escape on August 06 when the tail of the aircraft scratched with the runway while landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The incident, which is known as tailskid in aviation jargon, apparently happened apparently due to pilot error. Ideally the pilot should land the aircraft on the main landing wheels – any miscalculation in the angle at which the aircraft approaches the runway is considered as the main reason behind the tail hitting the runway (tail scratch) before the wheels touched ground.
Kingfisher Airlines, considering the seriousness of the matter, has decided to ground the Commander and Pilot till the investigation into the matter are complete.
Recalling the incident one passenger said, “I was scared. I though there might have some emergency situation. I was afraid the tail might be damaged.”
“The attendants assured us that the tail is intact and it was a minor damage,” added the traveler.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the nodal agency regarding air safety in India, has started its own investigations into the incident. _________________

How does a bird hit become a "miraclaus" escape.
Whats a mirror in the cockpit.
What was the registration of the tail damage aircraft....Tail strike is serious from the aircraft structural point of view.

Update (Thanks to a source for this)
According to the organisers of the Festival of India being planned in the Netherlands in November and a member of the Indo-Dutch Trade Summit being held at the same time (being led by Minister Kamal Nath) it is 75% likely that Kingfisher will start its international operations via the Netherlands (Schiopol) only towards Q1 of 2009.
Planned operations are by the Airbus A330 and from Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore to Amsterdam and beyond.
***
It sort of matches with what we in Ai-net have been observing --- it has been only recently that IT released large ads in all the leading dailies for "international" cabin crew.

| I really don't understand what is going on at IT. They have all these planes that are not doing anything. This sounds like something we would hear from AI and not from IT. Maybe they have some major liquidity issues that we do not know about and there is simply not enough cash on hand to operate the widebodies? |

Mallya plans internet, mobile service on board
16 Aug, 2008, 0010 hrs IST,
Chanchal Pal Chauhan & Nirbhay Kumar, ET Bureau
NEW DELHI: UB Group chief Vijay Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines wants to be the country’s first airline to allow use of mobile services on board. The airline has sought permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for offering inflight mobile services. Current DGCA rules do not permit use of mobile phones once the aircraft gets ready for take-off.
“We have made provisions in the new aircraft for all high-tech features. To provide mobile services, we have changed the configuration of the aircraft to allow use of cellphones in such a way that they do not interfere with navigation controls. Each mobile emits 100 watts of power, but the new technology incorporated in the aircraft will allow them to emit only 1 watt, which will allow all kind of seamless operations in the aircraft,” a Kingfisher Airline executive said.
The provision to use mobile phone on board is likely to be introduced in Kingfisher’s Bangalore-London flight planned for September 3. The airline also plans to offer internet connectivity on this flight.
Dr Mallya’s plans for Kingfisher’s international operations include an array of luxurious offerings for high-end customers. These include flat-bed massage seats, stand-up bars, and availability of chefs for serving gourmet meals. _________________

Jet-Kingfisher rivalry goes to foreign skies
The Kingfisher-Jet Airways rivalry in domestic skies is now going to overseas. As Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher-Deccan combine is setting up its international operation base in Bangalore and Mumbai, Naresh Goyal-promoted Jet has also announced that it will "soon" launch flights from Bangalore to three North American cities of New York, New Jersey and Toronto via its European hub Brussels.
"Currently we have flights from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai to Brussels and those planes go beyond to US and Canada. We were planning to link Bangalore and Ahmedabad to Brussels and now the Bangalore link will happen first for obvious reasons," said a senior Jet official. Initially, Kingfisher plans to have most of its international flights from India out of Bangalore and Mumbai. Delhi will be used for low-cost flights to nearby places like Karachi, Kathmandu and Dubai.
Air India does not have a strong international base in Bangalore as passengers have to fly to Mumbai for onward foreign flights. AI first had plans to use its fifth Boeing 777-200 (long range) for a non-stop Bangalore-New York flight three or four times a week. But such long-haul flights, by taking expensive jet fuel from India has become unviable in the current cost-hostile environment and the airline is content with the two daily nonstop flights to New York from Delhi and Mumbai.
Jet currently has no plans of having a non-stop India-US flights. Kingfisher has ordered the ultra long range Airbus A-340 for such flights from Bangalore. But given the high price of jet fuel, Mallya is weighing the other option of flying with one stop in the west or southeast Asia.
"With Air India direct Bangalore-New York flights becoming unlikely, the fight for Bangalore's international traffic will be contested between Jet and Kingfisher. Both offer service and inflight experience as USPs. How they try t | | | | | |
