A very very rare bird in these parts - An Ilyushin Il - 18 (regn EX-786) was a real surprise. This specific aircraft was once heard impounded in Islamabad, Pakistan when it landed with 142 people on board (20 were standing !!) against a rated capacity of only 100 pax. The noise made by the bird's 4 Ivchenko turboprops was deafening

Shashanka, lovely pics again. Aseem's question is something I asked quite some time back. I guess the nature of your job does not permit you to answer this question, or perhaps you would like to keep it to yourself, to avoid publicity (It will be nice if you could clarify, but of course, it is your prerogative, which we must respect.) Whatever be the case, please do keep the lovely pictures coming!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Nice capture, Vivek - I think you had this picture on one of your albums, somewhere.
In the late 70s, I do remember seeing some of these beautiful aircraft coming in to land on the DEL main runway, from the east: the sound of the contra props was wonderful!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

As per Wikipedia,
The forward fuselage is fully pressurized and provides space for 5 to 8 crew and up to 28 passengers, but the cargo space is pressurized to only 3.55 PSI allowing the for a lighter airframe. A door equipped pressure bulkhead is located at frame 14, separating the cargo attendant's compartment from the main cargo compartment. This allows the rear cargo doors to be opened during flight for paratroops and equipment drop.

a lil heads-up for you BOM spotters... 9W's laying them up in bunches... they have 2 A330s parked on the parking area behind the Line Mx buildings for quite a few days now... so anyone who wants to get a good look at them in 9W colours i suggest go take a trip. By the looks of it.. atleast 1 A330's been idling her time there for a few nights now.
Also they just positioned a 77W on the parking area last night. _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |
