cool, I am very happy for AI to finally do something to indicate they were still alive and trying to look modern without looking tacky like some US/EURO low budget carriers.
I like the fact that they got rid of the double lines around the windows that looked hideous especially where they met all the way on the nose and instead now went with just one clean line... also like the fact they kept the window design (though personally would not have missed them but it does give AI a distinct touch)
I didnt like the fact that their emblem (whatever its called) on the tail is cutoff to the point that you cant really tell what its supposed to be. Perhaps on the tail they shouldve put the maharaja?
but again all complaining aside, a very good move!
cant wait to see the new livery in person.

Hey guys please look at the front of the aircraft in the main photo and if u zoom in, there is 'Star' on the lower part of the fuselage below the red line. Is that by anychance the star alliance logo sugesting AI's entry in to the alliance with the new aircraft.Have a close look. There has been a lot of specualtion about this before right.

Star Alliance logo is typically on top portion of fusalage near the door. What you are refering to could be IATA logo

If you look at the original photograph, the IATA logo can be seen in front.
Also just below the antennae/dishes on top of the aircraft, there are three break-in points. Is this slightly different?
In the Airbus, its usually at the door area. |

Does AI plan a public launch of it's new livery? I remember back in 1989 when the earlier "new livery" was launched, AI had organized an airshow at Nariman Point. A B747-200(VT-EBN) flew low over the Marine Drive so that the people could get a good view of the new livery.
The AI B-747-200 was followed by a variety of IAF and Indian Navy aircrafts. That was almost 18 years back and I was 18 at that time. I am getting old. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Are we sure that is golden and not some form of white??
One thing is sure, the red belly is anyday better than grey.

... the heartbreak of Air-India's terrible new look.
Jan. 19.2007
Other early returns for 2007
First, a sneak peak at the latest airline livery abomination. There's been no shortage of these lately, but this one is particularly disappointing because it afflicts Air-India, until now wearer of my all-time favorite color scheme. Here's the original, shown to gorgeous advantage on a 747.
http://tinyurl.com/2ykyyn How can you not love it, from the Rajasthani palace window frames to the Nike-style fin flash? It's exotic, classic, understated, refined. All airlines should be those things.
Now for the update, depicted here http://tinyurl.com/ymfcbn on what I believe is a pre-delivery Boeing 777 at the factory near Seattle. The window arches and striping look emaciated. That scrambled egg on the tail is a bastardized version of the carrier's elegant Sagittarian centaur logo. He appears to have been electrocuted. (As for why an Indian company would choose a symbol from European mythology for its emblem, please revisit the archives.) Air-India has started naming its 777s after Indian ragas ("Hamsadhwani," "Kalyani," "Neelambari"), but its uniform, like too many airline makeovers these days, gets all gimmicky and flashy, selling out a part of its identity in the process.
Mods, can he be invited here?

Air India have truly screwed up the Centaur. The gobbedigook version of the Centaur they've adopted really does look like scrambled eggs. Which genius came up with the idea of doing that to the Centaur? Probably some nitwit at an expensive ad agency who charged AI crores of rupees.
And I have to admit that I will miss AI's old livery. While I don't find the new livery to be as much as an abomination as Patrick Smith does, I think that AI could have fixed the current livery by making smaller changes like changing the color of the Air India script on the fuselage and the tail, and doing away with the bare metal underbelly. But then, taste is all subjective. In any case, they can still fix the new livery by bringing the Centaur to his old self, by keeping the entire tail red and keeping the Centaur whole on the tail as many on A.net have said. |

Jasit.. i think id hold it on blaming Air India.. i think its just Boeing showcasing a concept to them.. i dont think AI has had it done officially.
much like what happened to TAAG Angola.. though in that case i feel is the true reverse.. TAAG moving backwards with keeping the old scheme rather than moving forward with the dynamic new image Boeing offered them _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

But why paint a brand new plane just to show a concept. I'm afraid we will have to live with this livery.

PIA's new 777 has also been painted and is it Paine field.

Its PIA's second 777ER
There are also pictures of the J and Y cabins --- which is how Air India's 777 cabins will look.
Surprised?
The Italian seat manufacturer is supplying the SAME MODEL of seats to both PIA and Air India for their 777s!!!!
A look at the tails. Wonder who is taking ideas from whom? Air India or PIA?

Royal S King is not at Paine County. It seems Matt Cawby who is there, hasn't been spotting often. I saw his latest photos and it seems that area hasn't been witnessing fine weather, so maybe he didn't go there very often. If and when he does, it should reflect on our Flickr pool as he is a member and also on his personal page. In short, we might get to see photos round about the same time others do at A.net. Here is link to his personal page.
Matt Cawby
cheers!!

Better pictures should be in the line.
The first test flight for VT-ALA is on Feb. 6.
The aircraft has also been moved down. |

In this lighting, the background color looks more like a light pink, not so much cream. But hopefully that's just the lighting, I would hate to fly in a Pink a/c! |

Earlier I had concerns as the fuselage appeared too white..But the cream tone looks quite nice.
They should increase the surface area of the palace window decoration. One can hardly notice the effect from far! |

Are you talking about the Saw tooth effect on the Fan cowl Trailing edge.Thats deliberate. To improve Efficiency.
The B787 was supposed to have it.

But that's not there on the upper pics nor on the actual plane.
Also never noticed in 787 until U pointed out, it seems boeing had a lot of fancy imagination when they designed 787 which did not translate into reality. |
