Hovering In A Haze

OUTLOOK
http://tinyurl.com/2mdyxb

Did the proponents of the AI-Indian merger fail in weighing its pros and cons?

It is a baleful wind that has struck the much-hyped merger process of Air India and Indian, the two national carriers. All of 10 unions, representing a majority of the companies' 33,500-strong workforce, have gone to court challenging the legality of the entire exercise.

Says a source: "Even some highly placed directors are planning to file petitions against the merger in their individual capacity."

According to the merger roadmap, the entire NACIL board would be constituted shortly. At present, there are eight functional directors. The new structure would also have six special business units—maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, cargo, low-cost carrier, passenger transportation, ground-handling and allied services including IT and security, each of which will function as independent profit centres. The unions are, however, apprehensive that such a strategy could make the new company vulnerable to backdoor privatisation as it would be relatively easy to hive off small profit units.

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

After the HT Leadership Summit and the political news that younger MPS may be inducted into the Parliament, the hint is that aviation may get a look at again.

Unions are applying pressure on the Left to bite again. After success with the nuclear deal, the Left may find it easier now to start attacking on this one now.
CPI's A.B. Bardhan and Abani Roy are kind of dead against Praful Patel.

Essentially it is now
Indian Commercial Pilots Association, Indian Airlines Officers Association, Air Corporation Employees Union, Airlines Radio Officers and Flight Operation Officers Association, Indian Aircraft Engineers Association, Air India Cabin Crew Association and Trade Union Joint Action Committee of Indian Airlines Employees
(To join in will also be the SC Officers Association of Indian Airlines and Association of Vayudoot employees --- this last one is still fighting for its dues from IA!!!)

versus
Ministry of Corporate Affairs
Ministry of Civil Aviation
Registrar of Companies
Air India
Indian

The merger was always a silly plan: and made no sense to anyone except those who wanted IC out of the game(like KF, 9W etc) and to some young boys who hang out on terraces tyring to photograph planes!

What was needed was synergy between the 2 state-owned carriers: which Pee Pee didnt even make an attempt to put in place.

instead he pursued a single point agenda of finishing off a strong and profit making domestic carrier that was becoming a thorn in the flesh of KF and 9W.
