UNI website says that Fly Asian Express, a Malaysian airline partly owned by budget carrier tycoon and Air Asia CEO Tony Fernandes, plans to offer long-haul flights to the U.K. and China for peanuts!!
The plan will be released ion Friday and the local media has wrongly reported that the long-haul budget flights would be operated by AirAsia.
Fernandes is one of the biggest individual shareholders in AirAsia Bhd., and separately owns 50 percent of Fly Asian Express Sdn. Bhd., which operates turboprops in the Malaysian countryside.
Fly Asian Express, or FAX, plans to fly from Malaysia to the U.K., Europe and China, and is in talks with Virgin Atlantic.
FAX will be the latest Asian airline to propose offering budget long-haul flights after Oasis Hong Kong Airlines which began flights to London from Hong Kong in October.
FAX began operations in August when AirAsia subcontracted its rural air rights to the new airline, which operates Fokker 50s and Twin Otters services in eastern Malaysia, says the report.
Other owners of FAX are Kamarudin Meranum, AirAsia’s executive director, who holds a 30 percent stake and Raja Azmi, AirAsia’s former chief financial officer.
Malaysia Airlines has reacted by saying it will reply in a suitable manner. |
