Someone asked me this question today and I dismissed as saying it is a non-issue in today's age of technological advancements.

The situation is:
The Delhi fog has shut down aviation operations for hours on end. And even the most sophisticated aircraft can't fly. War breaks out and both China and Pakistan decide to strike suddenly and without warning.
Will India lose valuable time in not being able to operate its jets and getting its airforce ready from northern bases? The assumption is that most of North India is under very dense fog.

On a lighter note - because of the fog, the enemies wont' be able to see the city of DEL, and will be unable to bomb it Razz

That being said, we have air force bases at a number of points in North India, and I'm hoping it's unlikely that even 2-3 of them will have to close down at the same time due to the fog.

Lets hope it doesnt come to war mate!!! It would be devastating for the economy. I dont think China would resort to war anytime soon because they have their own economy, reputation and FDIs to protect. Pakistan however is a different story.

IMO the only way we will see stability in the region is economic progress in Pak.

Well actually the question is worth considering....
But im sure taking off under such situations will definately take place... aircrafts might land at different places but they can definately take place

Indian Intelligence would have a fore warning in advance.
Considering only the North is Fogged.China & Pakistan would be worse affected than us weatherwise.

Ok, lets modify this a little.

Can IAF pilots take off with just night vision goggles? Or do the frontline fighters in the IAF have infra-red devices for extreme low vision take-off?

... Airbus has this on its A340-500/600 for extreme low vision maneouvres, with Virgin Atlantic having installed it.

Question is does a fighter face the same problems that a sophisticated civil aircraft does when it comes to fog? Does it too remain grounded for a while?

1) Fog in North India usually covers fog in Lahore/Sargodha/'Pindi and other Pakistani bases too. If anything, it gets worse.

2) Air threat from China covers a vast border, and Indian bases at places along the UP/Bihar borders are sufficient for that.

3) Low visibility take off by fighters is feasible.

4) There are also enough air bases in and around Rajasthan which remain functional 24x7x12 with clear visibility.

Brothers, you shall be amazed at the bases we have in North India. So if fog engulfs them, we have one too many.

Also, i feel you should see with the dedication and shall i say JUNOON they Indian Air Force Pilots fly to protect our motherland is a feeling which comes from within.

They exceed expectations and we have a history full of them.

The 16th Squadron is one such leading example.

And whether its fog or no fog, when one attacks your motherland, you would not get into discussions or debate but get into gear.... Idea

Are you referring to an Air attack or Land incursion.
