The concept of having an airport watch group with jackets/id-cards n with a proper permission from the airport authority as mentioned by Aseem in another thread is really exciting. But as stated by Mel,we cant have high hopes...But i say its really worth a try

Maybe we could invest in a P/O box /website and use the photos of experienced members on anet/jet-photos/myaviation etc...

I am listing down the members from Mumbai who are regular/not so regular at spotting...

(1)Vivek Manvi
(2)Vishal jolapara
(3)iflytb20
(4)Yash777
(5)Gauravprakash007
(8)Birendra
(7)Shekar
(8)Avijeet (the_380)
(9)Prajay
(10)Rutvij
(11)saurabhm_101
(12)Jesal

adding two more members.....

(13)Karan
(14)Anuj

looking fwd to a lot of support and encouragement from senior members...and very vigorous action on this front asap Smile

rgds
Shekar

PS:if i have missed out any other members name .....please met me know and ill add it to the list

I suggest that the people who want to create a AWG should contact MIAL office first, and then ask them if something like this can be mooted.

Also, i would suggest you guys to take advice from Karan, Deaphen, Mr.Niji, Mel and Aseem as these guys have considerable experience in such matters.

Good to see that you ppl want to place INDIA in the SPOTTERS LAND too.

Let me know if i can be of any help.

I am all for it as well ! Would like AWG asap as my Exams hv just finished ! Wink

I still remember my first illegal Spotting session (without my Parent's permission) when in 8th Standard. I used to cycle all the Way from KURLA (East) upto the Airport Boundary Wall of Rwy 27. It had a small Orange Door. I used to Spot those beasts from a small gap comfortably seating on my Cycle which used to rest on the Wall ! Very Happy

Ok guys so we need to brainstorm a little about this, now that we have most peoples support.

First of all we need to get as much information from you Aseem about the Watch group on YYZ and i guess we can safely say it willb e more ont he lines of the YYZ watch group.

Secondly, we have to decide the extent and power of becoming a member of such a watch group.

Thirdly, Its important to know if membership will entail a person to be free from harassment from the police at all airports around india (except defence ones ofcourse, its no point even trying to ask for that).

Fourthly, we have to identify which part of the govt we have to talk to, whether to the Civil Aviation Minister, or the DGCA.

Fifthly, I am willing to spearhead this initiative, but what we need is for everyone to post their suggestions and what they feel should be the guidelines and advantages of being a member of such a watchgroup, as well as any other suggestions you may think relevant.

Lets hear you guys.

After the post of Jun 18th today Jun 22nd there is no support from AWG group at YYZ Crying or Very sad

I have done a bit of study and shall be posting the findings soon about the permissions and procedures to be followed for spotting permissions et all.

I have studied French spotters and Belgian spotters and some of them have become my friends from the fraternity.

Nitin,

I think that this one is too far fetched. IMHO, you should just focus on one place initially and then after it's (hopefully) success, should spread head to other locations after that.

i think we must contact the atc guild (www.atcguild.com) for they are more organised and yes, atcs work inside the airport (dumb point;). they could help us into the right procedure to build the AWG.

and i feel that the AWG would be a quite messy thing to formulate coz u know the bureucracy (ah that spelling!) in india especially at the airports.
but lets try.......

Hmn Nice One Mel....

The kids are waiting since June 18th, 07 (Shekhar's post above) but no response till date.....Some support i must say Rolling Eyes

I think Mel, you must take lead and give them the addresses of the MIAL concerned people and guide them since you are both responsible and ainet ppl look up to you.

Ur respect rating here is 100% & i feel that it's best that u guide and channelise them.

Sure.I can get the MIAL contact details & provide them. Can't say how cooperative the Authorities would be though.

But Firstly I think These excellent photographers should get together, form their group with tips from other spotter groups abroad & then only approachj the Authorities assurng them that they will be doing a job that will beneft Indian Aviation.

Rope in the media too. That will help.

Aseem.....Pls guide this entusiastic bunch.

Hey im not on the list !!!! count Karan and Anuj in !
so we have a huge bunch of spotters - that makes the AWG project even more ambitious Very Happy

im not sure how atcguild can help us with this. But contacting MIAL / BCAS should help.
I will speak to a few guys from the guild to get more inputs on this issue.

Thanks for ur guidance and help.

Should we write a letter or approach in person to MIAL & BCAS!

I visited http://civilaviation.nic.in/ and thought it is better to visit http://bcasindia.gov.in/ and found that we can start filling this http://bcasindia.gov.in/forms/charecterverfrm805.pdf and keep ready, right.

If we are to spot from within the airport premises then would a form like this could be expected out of us to be filled http://bcasindia.gov.in/forms/pic.pdf

Should we email the Big Boss or COSCA as they call it of BUREAU OF CIVIL AIVATION SECURITY on coscaps.bcas@nic.in

OR

Should we write to AIRPORTS AUTHORITY OF INDIA marking kind attention to Chairman, AAI at chairman@aai.aero & chairman@airportsindia.org.in

OR

Should we write to DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF CIVIL AVIATION at dgoffice@dgca.nic.in

OR write to The Hon'ble Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Praful Patel on
praful@sansad.nic.in or call him on 24610350 with marking a cc to the aviation secretary, Shri Ashok Chawla on secy.moca@nic.in with phone number 24610358

OR

Write to all of the above Confused

Pl guide.

@Aseem, Mel, Nimish
I think if we claim or make an attempt to suggest that WE LOVE AVIATION, we must in all respects support the endeavours of these young boys.

@Birendra
You have done a splendid job. However i would still suggest you to coordinate with Mel as he is a both a diligent advisor and an inside person (Ex East West now with BDA). He will help you and guide you properly. Also involve Malq......u'd be surprised the moment ur application has his name on it, it will move faster in government circles Twisted Evil

I'm all for it - but that does not help anyone. What's needed is a local "respected person" who can talk to the authorities (starting with the MIAL folks and the MoCA/DGCA) and bounce the idea off the babus and then make a formal proposal.

Agreed. These folks have excellent photography skill & have contributed a lot to making Aircraft at Indian Airports more visible to the world.

I feel since Aseem has been a part of this group. He could pass info on how they can get organised. Its only after they get organised as a group can they go to step 2 which is interacting with the Authorities.

I'm sure prajay can add to this immensly.

Conceptual integrity is much more important than mathematical accuracy.

@shekar, birendra, yash
I think you must write to these people at the earliest because for responding they may take some time as this is a new idea.

Also study the airport sites of Amsterdam, Brussels and look for special privileges and email them asking for spotter benefits and explain them your need. They will help.

hey jj......thanks for all the help buddy....but i personally think we should organize ourselves into a proper group before approaching the authorities.
Else we would come across as being very disorganized.

Another thing thats bugging me is that ,at the spot tht we click from, theres NOT MUCH of an interference/harassment by the airport security apart frm the occasional "shuuingg" . Will this initiative end up causing more harm then good ?....

No pain no gain.

If u want ur name to be publicised like most indians want to, then i guess u keep mum about ur location and click pictures and continue to grab all the attention the world showers on you.

OR

If you want to advise and encourage SPOTTING (which is a religion in most parts of the world) then i guess u should forget about the bouquets and be ready to face the brickbats.

U want to be a Mahatama of AWG and not want to wear lion cloth seems a bit dizzy to me Wink

with all due respects Sir,

we seem to be forgetting the whole point here....spotting is meant to be a fun thing...where does all this "leader" thing come from....all i see going on in this thread is stone throwing....

Which is exactly what will happen ,we will loose what we have.

i do not want to discourage anybody so i would say do whatever yoll decide, because if it works out it will be great.

Remember India is no London or Sydney or Canada, honestly we are lucky they have issued us a Photography Permit Pass by the DGCA,

I know, and those who read my 9W 343 AMD trip report will have an idea of what i experienced with the vigilance department, just for taking a simple photo, do yoll honestly think these guys will let us shoot pics from a hill.

Let things be momentarily the way they are, however if yoll unanimously decide to do something abt it i will support yoll.

Ask Vivek, Himmat the way the CISF told us to put the cameras down even though we were on a road.

For now cherish what we have because the views from the hill are more than enough to have send me atleast 15-20 emails from places like ZRH BHX KUL HKG SYD asking me abt aviation photography in India and most of those photographers have been on the top 24 hr list more than 10-12 times.

As i said earlier Cherish What we have ,

My opinion is You folks are doing a great job.Just continue spotting & get organised into a disiplined group.Thereafter maybe step two can be considered ie approaching the Authorities.
