Recently stayed in one of these and was an interesting concept from HR point of view as well as guests
Accor wants to cash in on this with additional charges. I am not sure how many would be willing to pay 10% more for a different looking room.
MyRoom at Ibis – an innovative concept
Pictures and details on the link
Over the last few years as our travels increased, I decided to latch on to one of the loyalty memberships and with a wide spectrum of choices from budget to ultra-luxury, Accor suited the most. The ease of redemption, special treatment for direct booking and some great locations has been the USP so far.
With higher tiers come higher rewards & it was time to experience a little bit of this when we stayed at the Ibis New Delhi Aerocity.
I was pleasantly surprised to have received an email before the trip asking me if I would like to upgrade to one of the “MyRoom” and confirming that it would be complimentary. Accor launched the concept few months ago and has accelerated its implementation across geographies. “MyRoom” are select rooms re-designed by the employees of the hotel for the guests and the group aims to cash-in with additional charges for such rooms. In India, these rooms are slowly being rolled out starting with Novotel & Ibis at Aerocity New Delhi.
“MyRoom” involves concepts developed and personalized by individuals based on an eclectic combination of their interests, a particular aesthetic leaning or a regional affinity. I was told that our options are Music, Rajasthani, Boxing, Bollywood or Vintage. We opted for Rajasthani or Vintage and both were unavailable when we reached the front desk for check-in. We were given the aqua themed room. The hotel has seven such themed rooms, all located on the dedicated members floor. _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

Nice.
Even though calling it an 'Aqua' themed room just because it has blue paint on the wall and a clock in the shape of a ship wheel is a bit of a marketing scam, in my opinion.
I wonder what the boxing themed room would have had? A big poster of Mohammed Ali's 'Everlast' chaddie on the wall? _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Ha ha.. I wonder if people would pay and how many for this. . as long as its complementary, it is interesting.
For some chains, before they move to themed rooms, I have always felt they should move to hotel theme first - a standard hotel experience rather than anything else _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

Very interesting articel (and the enusing discussion as well!). Ameya Sir: I am also a big fan of the standardisation you talk about, and hence, this concept did not appeal to me much when I had first read it. However, your intiial two choices were interesting: Rajasthani for instance, would have wall murals and artifacts from Rajasthan, which one would perhaps expect to find in a havelI or a heritage structure. Hence, the USP of having a place away from the real one, but with a feel of the same: can be a moot point.
Thank you for a lovely review!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Thanks sir. Finding a haveli (large room) in Ibis is next to impossible !
What they have done is kept the room size same just done up the rooms.
Sometimes I feel, they should just make the room look like a hotel room first and then try doing something else with it _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |
