SpiceJet allowed to revert to full capacity
25.10.2022
SpiceJet (SG, Delhi Int'l) will be able to operate at full capacity from October 30, as India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has lifted its restrictions on the low-cost carrier, an official at the air safety watchdog confirmed to local media.
As previously reported, the directorate enforced a measure in July that halved the airline’s approved fleet, putting it under “enhanced surveillance” following a spate of air safety incidents and “degraded safety margins” during 2022. The restriction was initially for eight weeks, but in September the DGCA extended the period of the constraints until October 29.
SpiceJet has not issued a statement or commented on the development.
SpiceJet will now be able to operate, as the DGCA previously approved, up to 3,193 weekly departures in the winter schedules (October 30 to March 25), which is 6.6% more than what was approved for the winter season last year. The summertime control meant it could operate a maximum of 2,096 departures a week. Aviation insiders commented when the restriction was introduced that it in fact meant little as SpiceJet was already operating far fewer flights than the number the authority had approved.
According to the ch-aviation capacities module, SpiceJet has 2,003 frequencies scheduled for this week and 2,142 currently scheduled for the first week of December. Of the carrier’s total fleet of 77 aircraft, 46 are currently active, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

SpiceJet targets Italy for scheduled European debut
07.11.2022
SpiceJet is to commence scheduled passenger operations to Italy, its first destination in the European Union, with weekly roundtrip services between Amritsar - Milan Bergamo and Amritsar - Rome Fiumicino now showing as available on the airline's website. SpiceJet had formerly operated ad hoc charter flights to Italy.
SpiceJet's booking portal now shows weekly roundtrip services between Amritsar and Milan Bergamo as running on Saturdays throughout November before increasing to twice-weekly (Saturday and Tuesday) in December. The flights will be operated by a B737-8 and have a brief stop in Tbilisi, Georgia in both directions.
Similarly, SpiceJet will use a B737-8 on roundtrip services between Amritsar and Rome Fiumicino starting on November 11 before settling down to a Wednesday roundtrip service. These flights will also stop in Tbilisi in both directions. According to SpiceJet's schedules, the flights to Milan Bergamo and Rome Fiumicino will operate during daylight hours while the return sectors to India are overnight flights.
According to ch-aviation schedules data, only one other airline is operating passenger flights between Italy and India this month, with Neos Air operating a weekly B787-9 service between Milan Malpensa and Armistar. With the addition of the two Italian destinations, SpiceJet flies to 63 destinations across India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

SpiceJet gets creditor nod for SpiceXpress spin-off
22.11.2022
Creditor banks have indicated they will issue no-objection certificates and allow SpiceJet (SG, Delhi Int'l) to transfer all of its cargo and logistics operations to SpiceXpress and establish the cargo business as a separate entity. In August, SpiceJet foreshadowed the move, saying it would allow the cargo carrier to grow independently of the struggling parent airline.
SpiceXpress recently posted revenues of INR20.6 billion rupees (USD252.8 million) in the three months to September 30, 2022, and a net profit of INR2.12 billion (USD26 million) from transporting 27,675 tonnes of cargo. In contrast, SpiceJet reported a multi-billion quarterly net loss. In addition to utilizing belly hold space in its fleet of 78 passenger aircraft (of which the ch-aviation fleets advanced module reveals only 39 are active), SpiceJet also operates a fleet of three B737-700(BDSF)s and two (presently inactive) B737-800(BCF)s under the SpiceXpress brand.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet, which has spent much of 2022 fending off insolvency claims from disgruntled creditors and received USD122 million in emergency government funding as recently as October, is on the hunt for further capital. Last week, ch-aviation reported that the airline's board had approved the raising of an unspecified amount of fresh capital through the issue of eligible securities to qualified institutional buyers. ch-aviation has contacted SpiceJet for further details on this and their plans for SpiceXpress. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

SpiceJet secures another wet-leased B737
22.02.2023
SpiceJet has wet leased another B737-800 from Corendon Airlines, with 9H-TJC ferrying in from Antalya on February 15 and commencing passenger operations for SpiceJet on February 17.
9H-TJC is the fourth B737-800 operated by Corendon Airlines or its Malta-based subsidiary, Corendon Airlines Europe, now at SpiceJet on an wet lease. FlightRadar24 ADS-B data shows the plane now operating six domestic sectors a day.
In addition to the B737-800s that Corendon has placed with SpiceJet, ch-aviation fleets advanced data shows that there are also five Corendon B737-8s operating on wet-leases at SpiceJet.
In 3Q 2022, ch-aviation reported that SpiceJet was among several India-based carriers looking to use ACMI capacity in 2023 to to help offset a shortage of aircraft. India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has recently loosened previously stringent rules around ACMI to allow local airlines to bring in additional capacity to meet passenger demand. Nonetheless, the maximum wet-lease period the DGCA is allowing SpiceJet is reported to be just six months. ch-aviation has contacted SpiceJet for further details and clarification.
SpiceJet also has 129 undelivered B737-8s on order with Boeing but is now experiencing problems firming up new delivery timelines after pausing them due to Covid-19. Aside from the Corendon ACMI aircraft, SpiceJet has not received any MAX aircraft since 2018. In addition to the B737-8s and B737-800s, SpiceJet also operates five B737-700s, one B737-700(BDSF), three B737-900(ER)s, and twenty-eight DHC-8-Q400s. The airline has no outstanding aircraft orders other than the MAX order. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

How is Spicejet financing them. Last reports state that they were still struggling. It is a blessing in disguise that they could not take the Max8 due to the aircraft issues. |

Lessor asks Indian DGCA to deregister two SpiceJet B737s
13.03.2023
Another lessor, Aircastle, has filed a request with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to deregister two B737-800s leased to SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International), notifications on the authority’s website show. A spokesperson for the low-cost carrier told local media the move would not impact its operations.
The Irish wing of the Connecticut-headquartered lessor lodged the request to delist VT-SYA (msn 34799) on March 9, while Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin), a Wilmington Trust Corporation affiliate acting as trustee for the lessor, asked to delist VT-SZK (msn 41398) on March 6, according to the notifications.
Aircastle is the latest lessor to lodge an Irrevocable Deregistration and Export Request Authorisation (IDERA) with the civil aviation regulator seeking to remove B737s from SpiceJet’s fleet, following a spate of them last summer from Horizon Aviation, DAE Capital subsidiary AWAS, and Alterna Capital Partners.
An IDERA can be filed when talks over outstanding debts break down between an airline and a lessor. The process of deregistration is generally allowed after the aviation regulator checks whether the aircraft has any pending dues from tax authorities or airports.
According to the ch-aviation fleets ownership module, VT-SYA (currently in maintenance at Hyderabad International) and VT-SZK (active as of March 10) are both owned by Aircastle, the former via special purpose vehicle Klaatu Aircraft Leasing (Ireland) Ltd.
ch-aviation analysis of Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows that VT-SYA was diverted to Hyderabad during a flight from Delhi International to Bangalore International on November 12, 2022, where it remains, while VT-SZK has lately been deployed on a variety of domestic and international routes.
SpiceJet did not respond to ch-aviation’s requests for comment.
Two weeks ago, SpiceJet claimed to have agreed with another lessor, Carlyle Aviation Partners, to restructure a debt of over USD100 million into shares and debentures, giving it a 7.5% stake in the carrier. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.
