Thailand’s NokScoot eyes India

29th August, 2016

NokScoot, the Bangkok-based low-cost carrier, is planning to expand its fleet with a view to launching its first flights to India.

The Bangkok Post reports that the airline, which is a joint venture between Thailand’s Nok Air and Singapore’s Scoot, is planning to add seven more Boeing 777-200 aircraft to its fleet over the next two years. And chief executive Piya Yodmani told the newspaper that this additional capacity will enable it to commence services to India.

No Indian destinations were named, but Scoot recently launched flights from Singapore to Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur. NokScoot is based at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.

NokScoot currently focuses on destinations in North Asia, and China in particular. It already flies to Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao, Nanjing, Chongqing, Tokyo and Taipei, and will commence services to Dalian on 23 September.

Nok Air and Thai Lion Air are also planning India service.

Bangkok Airways will serve more cities in India.

Thai AirAsia X had also mentioned India sometime back.

SL, PG and XJ will launch once bilateral seat entitlements are revised I guess.

Interesting times ahead.
