A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKR performing flight LH-764 from Munich (Germany) to Mumbai (India) with 163 passengers, landed on Mumbai's runway 27 at 22:53L (17:23Z) but burst both aft left and right main gear tyres (4 tyres in total) and became disabled on the runway about abeam taxiway S7 approximately 1830 meters/6000 feet past the runway threshold.
The airport needed to switch all operations to the secondary runway 14/32 for 15 hours until the tyres were replaced and the A330 was towed off the runway.
A passenger reported there was fire observed at the landing gear, emergency services responded and foamed the landing gear. The crew handled the scary situation calmly and kept all passengers safe.
A ground observer reported it appeared a number of tyres burst resulting in a small fire at the landing gear.
Emergency services reported they were alerted after the aircraft had landed.
The airline reported there was no problem prior to touch down. The return flight LH-765 was cancelled, the 223 passengers were taken to hotels.

Looks most likely as AntiSkid/AutoBrake Malfunction.
The Runway clearing was delayed as the support Airlines were lacking spares & equipment.
Finally only wheels were replaced & it was towed to the bay for further rectification. _________________ Think of the Brighter side !!! |
