SIA Group to have 12 markets with three airline brands

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in an article entitled 'Singapore Airlines multi-brand strategy evolves with Scoot, Tigerair interlines and loyalty tie-ups', stated (28-Oct-2015) Scoot’s 16-Jan-2016 launch of services to Guangzhou will result in 12 routes being served by three SIA Group brands. Singapore-Male became the 11th route with three brands on 26-Oct-2015, when SilkAir began operating four weekly frequencies to Male. CAPA stated that one or more of these 12 destinations could potentially receive service from all four of the SIA Group’s airline brands in 2016. Such a scenario is feasible as each brand has its own position. But added that having four brands in a single market could be challenging to juggle and will inevitably bring to the forefront questions whether the group really needs so many brands. There have been repeated suggestions that SIA should adjust its multi-brand strategy to just one full service brand and one low cost brand. A Scoot-Tigerair merger would particularly be logical. |
