Forgive my laziness - but at the least I can share the pictures.

Itinerary: http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=146299

Outbound Pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/UbPas4Y9F1jB7K816 Note: the comments don't appear initially, click the (i) icon on the top right and you'll see the photo comments.

Return Pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/WxoHra1pW1VG5Fos5 --> Pics from my return journey. Due to some F-up with my phone or google photos 9 of the initial pictures are actually supposed to be much later in the order. So treat those as a "sneak" preview and go through the rest. As earlier, the comments don't appear initially, click the (i) icon on the top right and you'll see the photo comments.

Comments/ questions welcome! I loved the overall experience, and I'll fly AI J on the 787 again in a blink! I found the service perfectly fine and met my needs.

Nice summary of what looks like a nice seamless experience.
The AI lounge at Delhi seems to have its quirks, as you rightly mention: the fruit cakes for instance, and, something that you didn't mention, but screams at me from the pictures: the Nescafe instant coffee machine.
Add to it the liquor `guidelines'. Overall, the F&B doesn't look too bad. What I would miss is...a grander view of the tarmac, but the lounges aren't exactly well-located for an aviation enthusiast.
AI 143 DEL-CDG: the bubbly, served in an ordinary cheap glass...Hmmm.
AI Dream)liners have power ports on each seat, even in Y. Very thoughtful.
The amenity kit: the cost-cutting has taken its toll, it seems.
The menu card: as impressive as I remember it, from my first and only AI Dream)liner J experience, in Dec'12.
AI's offering of the good things (with specific gravity less than one) is quite good in Y as well.
This second and third glasses of the above volatile fluid family servings look nicer.
The food presentation in J looks typically not up to the mark: Y-style salt and pepper sachets, curd in the original sealed container, etc. However, the taste would have more than made up for it, I guess. AI's cheeses are quite nice.
The washroom amenities are only a shade above they ones.
The evening snack looked quite decent, with some decent presentation.

AI 142 CDG-DEL: Delicious cheese!
The double boarding pass: it would not work in India, for obvious philatelic reasons: stamp collection!
Dinner: plastic covers again, hmm...but the main course looks excellent.
And you left the broccoli/carrots untouched?
Interesting catch of Mr. C and Mrs.C on your flight!
Something which didn't obviously find a mention, given the nature of the report (a photo-report): how much time did UA take to have your miles credited to the FFP account? More so, since you have *G status? Or is it still in the works?
My April 2014 France trip report is in the works, so this will be a nice comparison with a nice Y experience on the same sector, albeit a year and a quarter back.
Thank you for sharing a wonderful collection of pictures with us, Nimish. You owed us a report since...ages, and yes, we loved this one!
Cheers, Sumantra.

Great report, enjoyed the photos. The AI 787 J indeed is a decent product. I've experienced it myself on a few occasions as well.

Outbound flight:
Given that AI does not carry champagne flutes, why was champagne served in that weird glass when they had a wine glass as an alternative? (as seen on the main course tray and for cognac later)

Inbound:
Those cashews at the OSL lounge look mouth watering!

- The legroom on those seats look huge, makes the TV look tiny Laughing
- I'm not a fan of the storage space beside the screen, it seems like enough space under the footrest and near the seat which is great.
- The food/presentation/menu looks horribly shabby. On the plus side there were 5 options.
- The grilled lobster looked like a starter.

- Thanks or the pics

Quirks is an understatement - the lounge is a bloody disgrace overall - very sub-par F&B offerings, wifi not working, and typical babu attitude on display.

While not a flute, this was a decent borosil type glass, at least it was light!

Horrible, this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Interesting - I hope I get a chance one day in Y - but preferably on a 777, not the 9 abreast 787s!

Food presentation was better than I thought, but not quite up to J level. The taste of the lunch was good.

Looks can be deceptive, this sandwich was quite ordinary!

Oh yes - the blue cheese was divine

Hmm - good point, never thought about that. Us and our stone age security!

Plastic packs for the nuts - not classy, but guess what, convenient if you want to take these home with you Smile

sumantra wrote:

I'd eaten a lot in the lounge, and was planning to skip dinner. Luckily the tiny Lobster morsels were just right!

sumantra wrote:

Hehe - I was expecting some drama and histronics, but they were well behaved!

Almost instant - 2-3 days is my guess. Just like how it is with LH to UA credit.

Look forward to it!

The Paris hotel - "Citizen M" was awesome - but a tiny room. Would recommend it for anyone who needs to stay at CDG.

I was just glad it's not in a plastic glass!

The legroom is awesome, and the TV could be a notch bigger, but the current size is not too bad either.

Yup - enough space under the footrest for bag + shoes.

The lobster portion was tiny, but I was surprised to even find lobster on AI's menu!

Thanks for all your comments guys. I'm flying to OSL again this weekend, but decided to stick with LH Y, as the layover at CDG is not the best way to spend a night!

Epic stuff Nimish, thanks for sharing! Something similar coming up with your LH J experience, I hope? Smile
