Okay, so this is not a full trip report but a short video report that I could manage on my last flight with AI.

Video Link: https://youtu.be/9h2QKTCDAsQ

On one of my recent Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flights, after taking off and flying for a bit, the captain announced that we will be returning back to New Delhi due to technical reasons. He explained the situation and told us that since the aircraft is fully loaded with fuel, he would have to dump some of it in order to make the aircraft lighter and have a safe landing.

The captain told us that we may notice fuel vapours flowing out from the aircraft wings and that it is a normal procedure. The Dreamliner continued to fly around and dumped fuel from both the wings as you can see in the video.

After the excess fuel was dumped, the 787 made a successful and a safe landing into DEL. This is a video info-mentary that I made out of the few video clips that I could manage on that flight.

Hope you like it!

Oh! I almost forgot, the reason for the flight to return back was..... a RAT!

There was a rodent found strolling around the aisles in the aircraft, which is one of the most dangerous cargo item to carry. For those who may not be aware, a rat may chew up important cables n wires on board the aircraft or may squeeze into avionics and create a mid-air havoc. Therefore the return!

Well done Ranjan. I have not seen fuel dumping from a plane in flight earlier. But how comes DEL airfield so lush green!

Wow, Ranjan:
- This would be my first experience of seeing a video of a fuel dump from a Dream)liner, thank you for sharing this with us!

- Trust Abhijeeth to pin-point the exact flight. I remember him pointing out that The Wife was on the AI 020 DEL-CCU flight with the oven incident: I remember calling her up, and sheepishly asking if she was on that flight.
- If I may ask, how many AI Dream)liner flights have you logged to date? Your mentions on the forum suggest that you are an AI regular, and specifically, an AI Dream)liner regular! I have been chasing the Dream)liner (mostly domestically), with 15 successes thus far, since Dec 2012, with two International trips on the type.
- Ranjan: how do we let you off without complete trip reports, given that you are such a regular flyer, and that too with AI? Jokes apart, please write more TRs for us! Text/Video: all will do just fine.

It is the monsoon season Dr. Ganguly: hence the brief sights of the city woudl have a lot of deep green. However, the airport is beautifully landscaped with some lovely grass all around, and South Delhi in general, is quite green. On that note, your favourite city Calcutta has some of the best green approaches (from both sides) among the prominent airports in India. It looks great.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Yes, I have seen the landscaping in new IGI terminal and it is very nice. The natural greenery around Kolkata airport is one of the nicest I have seen, looks like rice paddy field of Bangla countryside.Perhaps AMS comes close to it.

Hey, I was on a Pan Am 747 back in the late 80s that returned to Frankfurt after a big cockroach flew from Zone C to Zone D.

What a surprising TR about fuel dumping never seen that before. Thanks for posting the video and TR and agree it was a hard landing.

Funny how small mouse has power to bring down a plane. The mouse is mightier than the plane.

Funny, or scary, Sanjay? It is interesting that the biological name for the American Giant cockroach has `Pan Am' in it, Periplaneta americana.I also vaguely recount reading about the crew of a bomber with nukes in it, commenting on the irony of finding a roach on board, a type that can survive a nuclear holocaust.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Wow, what an interesting experience! I believe there are some planes, like the A330 for example, that have fuel dump nozzle on their wings (4R-ALC, a UL A332), while some don't (4R-ALG, another UL A332).

Nope, fuel dump isn't scary but the rat rollin' around sure is scary!

Interesting, was time did you eventually leave? Just an aircraft swap or did they have to put you in hotels?

Jish the 333 doesn't have jettison and it's an option on the 332 I believe.
