Unlike me, our in-house planning expert and master TR writer Ameya:
1. Does not do any self-advertisement
2. Writes very well!
I guess he is hesitating to put the link out, anyway, I will shamelessly jump the gun, and point to it here:

This is a very nice write-up on Smart cities, done with a typical Ameya-esque combination of rigour, as well as enough for laypersons and ignoramuses as Yours Truly. I had no idea that the JNuURM extended to anything but buses (and that too, I had come to know about it from its start in Mumbai, from this forum itself). I also wish I could understand some of the deep planning issues in these massive and challenging projects. Thank you, Ameya Sir!
