Folks, as always, may I once again request that we stick to the debut of the Air India 787s in this thread. Thanks. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Air India's earliest built 787, VT-ANA is up next for delivery. She is ready to go and should be the first 787 delivered to Air India in 2014. I am given to believe things at KPAE are pretty much shut for the holidays.

Nice to see this one ready to go. I remember seeing it parked next to the museum all alone and engine-less last year. |

Maybe, but it should be unpardonable for a member of this forum not to know the difference between a 747 and a 787, particularly when both types can be found in India.
Maybe an entrance exam should be in place. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Deb, since you have been tracking there with amazing consistency: the `Early Build' frames of the AI B788s: to what standard are they being modified to? Among the five stages in your earlier informative post, are only the ones post LN65 the `true-blooded, true to projected B788 performance figures'?
Thanks for all the data, and the images!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/first-modified-787-returns-from-change-incorporation-in-texas-364989/
....... extensive changes including wholesale replacement of its environmental control system air-conditioning packs and modification of ducting and baffling in the aircraft's cabin, as well as motor and fan changes related and related software.
Further, modifications were made to the aircraft's flight control system hardware and software, changing out the outboard ailerons, outboard and inboard flaps and flaperons, as well as making changes to the elevator and rudder systems.
The aircraft now features a new wiring configuration, along with the fully certified version of the updated electrical power distribution system that was changed after a November 2010 fire aboard test aircraft ZA002.

During the "change incorporation" process (as above) airframes are configured to conform with the standards established by the type certification, hence they should all be identical. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Thank you, Deb: so after proper `change incorporation', they will all be as the B788 was type-rated. So there will be no heavier, or range-restricted frames, right? Given your incredible talent in tracking every small change, how many of AI's B788s has been converted to the B788 type rating? I am sure you would have a time-table of the same, as well!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

If I'm not mistaken, the earlier frames will still be heavier. Probably why they were rejected. Even modifications can't bring them up to par. |

That is correct, there is a weight differential between early builds and newer builds, because Boeing's change incorporation process does not involve weight change, only type certification standards.
sumantra wrote: | how many of AI's B788s has been converted to the B788 type rating? |
All - every early build has undergone change incorporation. ANA/ANB/ANC are the earliest (and only) AI 787s still at Everett, and all have undergone change incorporation. With ANA's first flight a couple of days ago, ANC is the only one yet to take to the skies. ANB will likely be delivered next, followed by ANA; both this month.
sumantra wrote: | I am sure you would have a time-table of the same, as well! |
You, my friend, give me way too much credit than what is due . Sadly, I did not keep a track of the early builds coming out of the EMC (Everett Modification Center) after change incorporation. That being said, all are out now, and none will go in. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Thanks a lot, Deb for all these clarifications. I also wanted to ask about the ones AI has in service. For instance, the `connector': AND was experiencing payload-related exhaustion on the westbound return from Oz: have these also been sorted out, by the Boeing team at BOM?
Thanks, Sumantra. |

The Boeing team was to have taken care of these issues in BOM, but I an uncertain if the issues with AND in particular have been fixed.

Air India's 12th 787, VT-ANB, has been delivered today (01/31) at KPAE, and is on her way to DEL; ETA 1700IST (02/01).
Here she is at the Everett Delivery Center, being delivered to AI earlier today.

Air India earliest build 787, VT-ANA, has been ferried from KPAE to CHS today (02/06). There is a possibility that she might be delivered from CHS, though she is Everett built.

...This is just in case you may have missed out on this picture - All credits to the photographer, I am merely reproducing it here.
Notice who brought the plane in. The senior four-striper (fourth from right) is none other than national hero Captain Devi Sharan, the hero of the IC 814 Kandahar hijacking saga. It is only apt that this great man brought back the first Dream)liner constructed for Air India. He is one of the very senior ex-IC A300/A320/A332 captains transferring to the Dream)liner, along with other famous senior ex-IC Captains like Captian Nivedita Bhasin. She brought in the second Dream)liner, AND `the connector', right? Or did she bring in Princess ANI?
I can never forget my only meeting with the great man on 14 Mar, 2012: almost exactly two years back:

I remember seeing VT-SCA land in CCU years ago. I was absolutely overjoyed to see 'a new Indian Airlines coloured Airbus A320 with one emergency exit door', and react with sheer excitement accordingly.
The very next day, I saw a picture in the newspapers of the traditional ceremony, similar to the one shown being done on VT-ANA. I also remember correcting granny - telling her its not a 747, its an A319.

The last of the built 787s for Air India, VT-ANC, has a way to go before being delivered.

Cracks to delay delivery of 14th Dreamliner to Air India
14 Mar 2014
Boeing Thursday said the cracks found on the wings of 787 Dreamliners in production could delay delivery of 14th airplane to Air India by 10 to 14 days.
"Because we discovered them, we will act and we will fix it," Keskar said. "The delivery to Indian airlines will be delayed by anywhere between 10 to 14 days depending on the work to be done," said Keskar, who met the DGCA and other senior officials in Delhi on Monday.
I am guessing they are referring to VT-ANP (Chareston built) as the 14th 787. VT-ANC (Everett built; above), is the other built 787 due to be delivered to AI. That was the third 787 built for Air India, and presumably does not have the wing crack issue.
Interestingly enough, neither ANC nor ANP have had their first flight, so it would be interesting to see if ANP is delivered before ANC, which has undergone change incorporation. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

VT-ANP is in the air at the time of this posting, on her first flight today ( 03/28 ). She is to be the next 787 (#14) to be delivered to Air India.
Here is a first pic of ANP on the Charleston flightline :

any chance AI will change the business class seats for the remaining 787 frames to direct aisle access that other airlines are putting in? I really think AI should this way on premium routes and NA they can have all aisle access and on regional routes have the old seats |
