There is a correction to this.
VT-ANP has been delivered as the 14th on 06/03.
Air India has not yet taken physical delivery of VT-ANC (though contractual delivery might have been done). She is expected to be delivered (fly away) later this month as the 15th. |

Yes, possibly to start the MXP/FCO rotations. |
I just read an advertisment by Air India yesterday in Singapore papers that the Singapore-Bombay leg will be on a dreamliner soon. So this could be for this leg as well never know.

Air India's Mumbai-Chennai-Singapore sector to have improved business class product with 787
News
20-Jun-2014 10:13 AM
Air India's plans to launch Boeing 787-8 operations on Mumbai-Chennai-Singapore sector from 25-Oct-2014 will result in improved business class seats on the route (intoday.in, 19-Jun-2014, 17-Jun-2014). As previously reported, the 787 will replace A330-200 on this route, although the winter schedule has yet to be finalised. The carrier's 787-8 offers a two-class cabin layout with 18 seats in business (2-2-2) and 238 in economy (3-3-3). The current product on the A330 only offers a 13-inch recline and 52-inch pitch, whereas the 787s business seat is a flat-bed and has a more generous 74-inch pitch. Flight times will remain the same. |

Air India's 15th 787, VT-ANC, has finally been physically delivered today (06/24), and is expected to fly away from CHS this morning, ETA DEL 1000 on 06/25.
VT-ANQ is slated to become the first 787 Star Alliance logojet and should join the fleet as Air India's 16h 787 in July. |

News, as relates to VT-ANQ.
Looks like there might be a slight delay in taking delivery of #16 (and possibly the Star Alliance logojet).
http://www.hindustantimes.com/business-news/ai-sends-brand-new-787-dreamliner-back-to-factory-as-it-fails-test-flights/article1-1241224.aspx
A team of Air India pilots and engineers recently flew to Seattle to conduct test flights of a brand new 787 Dreamliner, supposed to be the national carrier’s 16th.
“The aircraft from the very first test flight started giving problems, the most prominent being a problem with its landing gear,” a senior AI official told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity.
Sources said Boeing engineers tried to rectify the problems, but as the glitches were recurring in the subsequent test flights, the 787 was sent back to the factory. Boeing did not reply to an email from HT .
“Our test pilots flew back since the problem was taking time to rectify but our engineers stayed there. We have now send a senior examiner (examiners are senior most pilots) to carry out further test flights on the aircraft,” the AI official said.
“Boeing is looking into the problem. We won’t take delivery of the aircraft unless it is in a perfect condition,” said another AI official. “It’s very surprising that a brand new aircraft, which is straight out of the factory, is having such problems.” |

^^ Is Boeing trying to palm off a lemon? I'm glad AI is doing the full due-diligence before accepting the new aircraft, any repairs + delays at this stage are probably at Boeing's account. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Air India's 16th 787, VT-ANQ, has been delivered today (07/20) (apparently not in Star Alliance colors), and is expected to fly away from CHS this morning, ETA DEL 1045 on 07/21. |

Air India sees continued issues with 787 fleet
News
21-Jul-2014 10:07 AM
Air India reportedly said it remains in constant touch with Boeing over continued issues with its 787 fleet (Times of India, 19-Jul-2014). The carrier reportedly faced a landing gear door issue on 18-Jul-2014 on inaugural service to Moscow while another 787 faced a cooling system issue on service to Singapore. As previously reported by CAPA, India's Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju last week stated Air India has reportedly experienced over 300 instances of delays due to technical issues with its 787 fleet. The Minister said: "Till June, out of the total of 9,902 take offs, 318 instances of service delays attributed to technical snags have been reported". Four cases of windshield cracks have been reported during this period, he said. The 787 was inducted into the carrier's fleet in Sep-2012. The Minister added: “AI is in constant touch with Boeing. The Boeing technical team has visited India and as a reliability enhancement measure, each Dreamliner aircraft was taken in for a 7-10 day maintenance grounding during December 2013-March 2014". |

The much hyped 787 Star Alliance logojet is nowhere on the horizon. Air India's next (17th) 787, VT-ANR will also be delivered in standard Air India livery from CHS.

Sad to say that the plan has likely been put on ice if none of the upcoming 787s show any signs of a Star livery.
As for the A320, has anybody seen it in action after it was unveiled? Which destinations does it fly to? _________________ Yeah. |

It flies regularly to BOM. I have spotted it almost every time I have visited the airport in the past 3 months (3-4 times at least) _________________ Boeing makes planes. Airbus makes videogames! |

Air India's next (18th) 787, VT-ANS, has been painted in regular Air India livery earlier this week and is back in CHS. This rules out the Star Alliance livery being applied on the 787 as per Air India's intended plans, anytime soon. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

VT-ANT on the CHS flightline. She is scheduled to be delivered today.
In the background (second last / second-from-left) is the future VT-ANU, with a white tail & black rudder. Apparently she will be painted in Star Alliance colors, making her the first 787 Star Alliance logojet. Time will tell. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Any final word on how many of the remaining birds will be 788 and 789? Really hope they get at least 6 X 789 so they have some flexibitility. |

6 X 789 is what is planned, but using "Air India" and "final word" in the same sentence is an oxymoron. If things go according to plan the next 787s should be :
VT-ANU 787-8 (built; possible Star Alliance livery)
VT-ANV 787-8
VT-ANW 787-9
VT-ANX 787-9
VT-ANY 787-9
VT-ANZ 787-9
VT-NAA 787-9
VT-NAC 787-9 _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Boeing, Air India celebrate 20th 787 Dreamliner
New airplane is world's first 787 in Star Alliance livery
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., March 31, 2015 – Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Air India celebrated a milestone today as the airline took delivery of its 20th 787 Dreamliner from Boeing’s facility in North Charleston, S.C. The airplane is the world’s first 787 in the Star Alliance livery.
"Taking delivery of our 20th 787 Dreamliner marks an important day for Air India," said Rohit Nandan, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India. "With this airplane we are building on the success of our other 787s, which are providing an exceptional experience to our passengers while allowing us to expand our network both within India and around the world."
The new Dreamliner also features the Star Alliance livery, Air India's – and the world's – first 787 to do so. The flag carrier joined the leading global airline network last year, reflecting the strong network growth of the Indian aviation market.
"Today Air India joins an elite group airlines who have taken delivery of 20 or more 787s and this milestone highlights the successful partnership we have between Boeing and Air India," said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president, Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The 787 continues to provide great value to Air India, opening new routes, with superior fuel efficiency and unmatched passenger comfort."

Another one in the public domain is the following, from Sankalp Sinha:

These two are published versions, there are a few superb private ones as well. It was a challenge to take good pictures, given the horrid lighting situation and overcast environment.
