F***! Only devices with a SIM card/ phone number can work with WhatsApp. WA uses your phone number as your ID... Most folks these days on "smart" or "feature" phones can get WhatsApp - it's supported on all these platform: Android, iOS, Blackberry, Nokia S40, Symbian, Windows Phone. Sure, traffic on this forum itself has suffered as a result, but the mobile platform is a convenient affair for many, and the overall phenomenon and shift is just history in motion. It's a lot more simplistic to capture an immediate reaction to a story than posting a thread and awaiting replies over a day/week. The only downside I can spot is the lack of any means to archive good chunks of discussions - they merely get lost over time. Yes, you can periodically 'save' conversations into your email inbox and hunt for any fruitful pieces of text you might have read/written, but it's a bit of a hassle. Other than that, topics sometimes go astray and occasionally cross the boundaries of aviation to other fields altogether, but I guess that goes with the territory. _________________ Yeah. And most folks in the US I know - actively have/ use Whatsapp - so I'm surprised you're not seeing it as yet. They already exist in their infancy (Viber, Skype, etc.) using which you can see and talk to people using just an Internet connection and no SIM, but we're yet to see a dedicated service like WhatsApp really grab the market by its horns.
