Hello Friends,
I am Ameya, new to this forum but active on other groups like BR, Indianaviators, etc.
I am 22, & would start wit my Post Grad this June.
I was in the IAF & had gone through for pilot entry, but before my flying started I was detected with a power to my left eye ( 0.50) & hence grounded, Instead of opting for Ground Duty / Logistics, I opted out of IAF.
Keen enthusiast of aviation, I have decent knowledge about Fighters & civil aviation.
Was in Mumbai to get a glimpse of A380 & below is the description of all what happened.
Thanks to previous information regarding the timing I managed to
reach on time in Mumbai, from Pune.
From Dadar I sneaked into Kurla by local train & then on the Kurla
Andheri Road by auto.
1430hrs : Stopped the auto at the end of rwy27, people had already
assembled.
There is some construction work going on, but on the
other side of road ? runway extension ? may be… CISF was around & so
was private security.
There was a damn road roller & people, alongwith media thronged
that. Imagine a tripod with camera a media person & spectators, all
on the roller …
1430-1440 : time spent in managing some place on road roller &
nearby trucks & watching the following take-offrs
IRAN AIR : B747-400
PIA : B744
Jet : B737-700
Indigo : A320 (VT-INH)
AI : B743 ( Shivaji)
AI : B743( Velha Goa)
1440 : People get excited as landings start & all being in bath
imagine how nice view they would get…
1445 : after 2 landings, a police jeep arrives, lathi carge starts
on people violating the security barrier of the extension.
People including me run for the nearby hill.
Many stand near the boundary wall, thinking they have a better view
of approach from there.
1500 : I reach the top of a small hillock, unimaginable views of
airport, rather every small detail on the airport can be noted from
here, I wonder whats that something , called "security" ?
1510: hoards of other people, press, media join in on the same hill.
1522: all flights have been stopped, a runway vehicle goes for
inspection.
AI A310 , Go air A320, Jet B737-700 wait for takeoff.
1531: Far away plane is spotted, cheers all around
The fly past is smooth, amazing…. Well short of words to say..
1545 : It comes in one more time now on the final approach with
landing gears open, and a smooth touchdown followed by a similar
smooth stop & turn.
Then it turns 180 degree, on the taxiway & nose towards the crowd,
you can see the outer engines far off than the taxiway lengths…
Taxing slowly it disappears towards Term 2A.
Aviation history is made at Mumbai…
Aircrafts spotted when there

Hi and welcome (it's not official until; Nimish says it )
Sorry to hear about the IAF but you can still fly commercially, ever considered that avenue?
Nice detailed report. All the newspapers are going gaga over the fact that the aircraft used half the runway; do you (or anyone else) know how heavy it was? _________________ eP007 |

Yep I have clicked a video & a pic, by my & my camera's standard its pretty good...
you can mail me at
ameya.joshi AT gmail.com
so that i will send it to you..
regarding the runway length..
It used little over half the runway. If anybodys knows the taxiway, between 1A & 1B, it stopped just before that & used it to move away from the runway towards 2A.
Thanks for the welcome..
I really look forward to be an active part of this family.[/img] |

Yeah me and vivek were wondering the same thing. The IC A300 which sde[arted after the demo flight also took the same length and the Gemini Air Cargo MD-11 took much more length than the A380 _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Awesome to see that there are others like me who were standing on the road to see the beast... btw Iran Air has B747SP not B747-400. _________________ Nalini... The Princess of the Sky... You are a star which will continue to illuminate your own A.net-India forever... |

ok..sorry for that IRAN AIR & PIA goof ups..
I dont know if you talking about the AI & not IC thing buddy..
after the flight AI310 took off.
Well I think there a a few factors contributing to this contreversy even at DEL & BOM.
People(read news channels) are comparing B747 to A380 in terms of landing length required.
Please understand when you are seeing a B744 land a BOM , its full with passengers & luggage, in short its heavy & hence requires some distance to stop.
In this case of A380, its almost empty.. may be about 100-200 odd passengers at the max, when it can sit 800+ & imagine what luggage that 200 people would be carrying, minimal...
so landing length less |

Answering on behalf of Ameya.
If you go to www.airfleets.net. with the registration number of the aircraft, the serial number as well as history of the aircraft can be obtained. _________________ My Flickr photos

Good doubt..
me not into any job now.
Its my pure passion towards aviation.
I keep records of which a/c I saw whenever I travel, & then find out its details & record them.
Intereestingly I have seen max no. of IC ... by which I conclude & believe that an airline which has max a/c on ground aint a good one. |
