For me, this is how they stack up:
Trivandrum
Chennai
Tiruchi
Cochin
Coimbatore
Madurai
Man, Madurai is bad, very bad. Surprised that Cochin is not as good as Trivandrum, considering it is busier.
Most UNSURPRISED that MAA sucks. Easily the worst Metro airport, if not for Kolkata Dum Dum. _________________ "A communist is someone who reads Marx. An anti-communist is someone who understands Marx." Ronald Reagan

Actually, I personally find MAA to be better than CCu (DumDum), and with the construction full on for the 2 new terminals is on at full pace, should be over by year end. _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. MAA airport is under construction and really bad, compared to the others at DEL, HYD, BLR.
I've been to IXM, CJB and COK in January and found the new terminal at IXM to be good and spacious. Our IT flight was the only one in the afternoon and there were no lines at security and boarding was also quick.
CJB on the other hand is still the small terminal. Our SG flight was departing with a couple of BOM and other MAA flights and there was absolutely no space to sit (all seats were taken).
COK domestic also was a similar situation. Along with our 9W flight to MAA, there was 6E to DEL, 6E to HYD, AI to DEL and IT to MAA. They have huge chairs as seats there, which are comfortable, but are really huge and take up a lot of space.
Not sure about how they are now!
Haven't been to TRZ or TRV in the past few years, so cannot comment on them. So, of the 4, I would rate them as -
MAA
IXM
COK
CJB |

@texdravid: you have not seen the IXM new terminal. It is very nice.
I visited Madurai via Chennai early last month. I have already started writing the trip report - this has quite a few pictures. The earlier terminal was an apology, this one is excellent. I hope to complete this trip report within a month or so, given that I have a few more before it already lined up.
As for MAA vs CCU, I'll certainly agree with Varun here.
(I'll get a chance to check out the current status of CCU today and tomorrow)
TRZ: I transited through this in 2008: the new terminal was coming up. So, I have no idea of the current situation.
I haven't seen CJB/COK. I've been to TRV in 2008 - old, small, but functional. The over-land approach from the east (?) is one of the most fantastic ever - the sheer vast expanse of the coconut trees is just incredible!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Chennai is the pits. Why is it second on that list?
The only other airport I've been to on that list is COK. It's okay I guess, but it's still reminiscent of construction aesthetics from the 90s. It could do with a renovation. _________________ Yeah. |

Its pity that till date,we haven't seen any Kerala Government encashing on the COK airport.
As I've seen many good opinions about this airport. But still we have'nt seen any major carriers from Europe or SE asia launching flights to this city.
Most of the governments have wanted Kerala state to remain an agrarian soceity. As a result not much of investors coming to that state and henceforth no International airlines fly to COK.
The COK airport seems to me more of model structure for other airports to be constructed rather than being a functional one like the BIAL,IGI and MIAL. _________________ www.flickr.com/G-BYGB photos |

+1. At CCU, the Domestic Terminal is older than time itself!

| Many European carriers dont fly in to BLR/HYD either, inspite of all the potential business to Eu/USA. |
