IT 612 JAI-DEL

Continued from IT 162

We managed to get on IT 612 from JAI-DEL on the 3rd of April and I had blocked 20A and 20B for me and my mum respectively. The departure time was 1950 from JAI and arrival in DEL was 2030 so about a 40 min flight!

We left for the airport from the hotel at about 6:30 pm and were at the airport by 7pm after settling the bill with the cabbie we had hired we entered the terminal with me looking forward to the flight as usual. X-Ray was smooth and so was check-in while I got our boarding cards my mum was suddenly missing and after scanning the airport I found her buying some very yummy methai (which im still eating! Lol). We proceeded for security check at about 7:15 pm which again was very quick and smooth. The airport was really good and comfortable very clean and tidy too!

We went on to the waiting area to munch on something as we were very hungry. The SpiceJet flight to DEL also was taxing for take-off as we entered the waiting area. I asked the very cute IT ground staff girls about the status of our flight since it was still not be seen on the tarmac! She said it was on-time but I dint think so! After a little chat (and flirting! Lol) I went and sat with mum to eat something. I went to the glass doors to see the tarmac and runway and started talking to the security guard there asking him about the flights, etc. he mentioned that they were planning to expand the airport to 17 aircraft being serviced at one time and the present capacity JAI is 6 aircraft being serviced at the same time with 2 at the remote stand. In the mean time our Kingfisher A320 registered VT-KFG arrived from Goa. I asked the guard if I could click some pictures and he instantly agreed! Ran across the terminal to get my camera and then ran back so I dint miss it! The guard very nicely opened the door and asked me to take pictures from there which I thanked him for! Not a lot of guards really are that nice! Surprisingly many more people cam forward and began clicking pictures! In a matter of 7 minutes the Jet Airways 737-800 registered VT-JNM arrived and parked right in front of me! It was an amazing experience! The engines of the 737 sound much better as compared to the 320.

Boarding for our flight was announced and there was a massive line for boarding. Since the passengers had to walk across the tarmac to board, passengers in row 20 to 30 were allowed to board first. After getting many shots of the Jet Airways 737 as well as the Kingfisher 320 we boarded the aircraft. To my surprise the loads on JAI-DEL were much higher than BOM-JAI even in Kingfisher First (which I hope to fly one day!). With a hope to meet the captain I went personally to the F/A standing near the Flight Deck to get my Flight Log signed. The door was open so I stood out and waited till she gave it back. The Capt. Took some time to sign it and the first officer came after his exterior inspection of the aircraft with a torch in his hand. He stood near the Capt.’s seat reading what was on the flight log and looked at me many times. The F/A got my log back and told me that the Capt. Would call me in some time as he was busy with the departure checks, etc. I smiled and went back to my seat not because I would get to see the deck but because finally there was a very pretty F/A named Anchal with one of the most beautiful smiles ive seen on Kingfisher! No its not what your thinking! It was just refreshing to see some really good looking girls unlike in the past.

In no time the engines we up and running and we began our taxi. As usual there has to be one passenger on every flight who feels they can do whatever they want! And we had a man sitting on 19E doing the same thing, talking on his cell phone when the announcement for switching off all electrical devices had been made! His also wasn’t in the upright position. The F/A was handing out the Kingfisher packs and told him thrice to switch his phone off but he wouldn’t listen! She came to our row and told her to tell him that we would crash if continued! She immediately began laughing and finally he hung up. We taxied all the way back to rwy 27 to take-off! Take-off was smooth and as we lifted off I saw a charted 757 at the remote stand. The climb was bit rough but again due to dry air. As were ascending suddenly the engines were set to full thrust so again the ‘pushed into your seat’ feeling was exhilarating!

The meal service began and they started handing out Tropicana Orange Juice to every passenger. They then handed out their version of a pita bread (pizza base cut into a semi-circle and then sliced in between for the filling which consisted of very hard paneer and 3 little pieces of red, green and yellow capsicum, with no salt or any kind of flavoring!) appalled by their choice of food, my mum began to complain to the F/As about their bad and unhealthy choice of meals even on such short sectors! Finally she was given some fruit and I was offered the previous GOI-JAI sector’s meal selection which had some hash brown potatoes with pickled chicken and some sort of a cheese cutlet.

We had already begun our descent to DEL which was again a rough one with a lot of turns and speed brakes which just became uncomfortable! Finally the gear was lowered and we were on final which was rough rough rough! A lot of aligning and then turning and then again speed brakes! Thought we were coming in too fast! But then as usual landing was smooth as a feather! We taxied out and the intl ramp was very full with Fedex md-11, JAL 772 American 772, Continental 772, Jet A343 and a lot more heavies which I could not really make out because of the distance!

As we were taxing to parking, the F/A comes up to me and says that the captain will see you once we park! So I was all excited again! Once we parked and the engines were turned off, the doors opened, cabin lights lit up, everyone began to disembark! But mum and me waited till everyone left and then we proceeded to the deck! I went inside and introduced myself to the captain and the first officer and the first thing says to me is, ‘That landing was for you!!!’ I thanked him a lot and mentioned that im going in july to Aussie train! the captain replied by showing his arm with the mark of a blood test and says with a smile, ‘they are going to take your blood every year!’ he was very calm and friendly and said that flying is great and that he used to fly in England for 3 years before he joined Kingfisher! The first officer mentioned that he flew in Aussie for a few weeks before he came here! He also told me to join Kingfisher because they need a lot of pilots! He told my mum that I would feel like quitting but not to allow me to do so! I just asked him about the turns and speed brakes, he said that there were heavies in front of us so we were asked to slow down! I also asked about cruise, he said that we were at 15,000 feet initially but then were told to get to FL210! I asked him if I could get a picture of the Flight deck but he said that the airline did not allow it! I thanked him again for chat and the great flight! He also mentioned that they were leaving for Pune in about 30 minutes! So I took as a hint that I should leave and its exactly what we did!

We walked down the stairs to find no bus one of the ground staff came up us asking if we wanted to go to the Arrival terminal and took us in a WagonR. We got to the terminal and I went to get the bags as mum had to use the restroom! After getting the bags she walks up asking where the fourth bag is? And then she remembers that she forgot it in the cabin! We instantly contacted the ground staff again and after took the description of the bag we, we waited for some time until we got it! We walked out to get into pre-paid cab.

Over all ratings:
Aircraft: 9/10
Service: 8/10
Meal: 1/10

cheers!
Saurabh

Great report - good that you got to see the cockpit and meet the crew! So the flight log definitely helped establish your credibility as a "genuine" airliners freak Wink

Why are IT meals so bad? Was this something they're trying to innovate and screwed up, or is the airline seriously not interested in the meals?
