IT 162 BOM-JAI

I was flying with my mum to Jaipur and then Delhi on the 2nd and 3rd of April respectively. We were booked on IT 162 from Mumbai to Jaipur and IT 612 onwards to Delhi.

We left the house at about 8:45 am to reach the airport by 9:15 am for a 10:30 am flight. (the flight was actually scheduled for dep. At 11 am but we got a call from Kingfisher a good 5 days in advance.) Surprisingly we were at the airport in under 20 minutes. Check-in was a breeze as we had the Kingfisher’s ground staff helping us with our bags. I had pre-booked our seats and I was seated on 20F with mum on 20E. We were given our boarding passes and were requested to proceed to security check. After security check was cleared, we were waiting at Gate 6 (on the ground floor) for boarding. At that time of day there are many incoming intl flights though I got to see only an Air India Express B737 and the SQ B773.

Finally the call for boarding was made and we proceeded to the bus. We were on VT-KFL in no time getting ready for departure. Now the actual flight starts! (The details mentioned below are true and did happen, it might tickle someone and irritate the other but it did happen.) The F/As assigned to the economy cabin were busy in handing out the Kingfisher Packs. I handed over my flight log to the F/A so she could get it signed before departure. She took it giving me a ‘whatever’ look without a smile may I add! Even the packs handed out were done without a single smile.

After pushback we begin engine start and the safety announcements begin. I know it was even stupid to ask but I took a shot asking one of the F/As if I could jumpseat. The first one did not even acknowledge neither did the second one. Finally one of them passing by I called out to and asked her if I could jump seat. Here is the exact reply I got “Jumpseat? You mean inside the cockpit? During flight? No sir im sorry but its just not allowed anymore!” I said, “No that’s not true I know people who do it and pilots who allow to do it!” she said, “No sir that’s a major security risk! Its just not allowed because of 9/11! Dint you know that 9/11 happened because of that!” (ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!) I said, “No that’s not why it happened and they still allow it in the US itself!” she said, “No sir! That’s not true! I flew to the US on Singapore Airlines and they dint allow me!” I said, “Well of course they wont because its Singapore Airlines and im talking within the US and not ‘to’ the US.” (hahaha still laughing in my mind!!) She said, “Well no sir its not allowed! And you should never ask again! You can go to jail, for life even for asking! (HAHAHA) I almost got a heart attack when you asked me! (HAHAHA)” While all this happened we already taxied past rwy32-14 and the intl. terminal was to my right! Here is what all I saw: many AI A310s and B747s B757 B767, AIX B737, LH MD-11F, Saudi B747, An-124, SQ B773, Orbis DC-10!

By this time we were ready at rwy 27 for take-off. We waited for another Kingfisher A321 to land until we taxied to the runway and were given clearance for take-off which was very smooth! The turn to the right towards Jaipur was very late but was comfortable enough! We leveled off at 10100m above the earth’s surface and soon the meal was served. I chose the non-veg meal in which we were served exactly 3 bites of hakka noodles with 3 small pieces of chilli chicken and cappuccino mousse for desert with tea/coffee ofcourse! But the food was really bad and served without a smile again! The F/A named ‘Glynis’ was serving our rows. Im sure you are familiar with that very loose plastic cover on the desert bowls? Well Ms.Glynis dropped 3 of those on my mum while serving others and dint even bother apologizing or smiling! AGAIN! That kind of ruined the mood!

The approach to Jaipur was very rough and turbulent because of the hot and dry weather! Very bad! I even heard remarks from fellow passengers like ‘hope he remembers that this is a plane and not a Ferrari!’ but then the touch down was very smooth! We landed on rwy28 in Jaipur and after a short taxi to the stand, we began to disembark. On reaching the front exit another F/A handed over my flight log with a smile for a change! We walked down the stairs and I asked one of the Kingfisher ground staff if I can take a picture and he agreed! Got really good shots too! The arrival terminal at Jaipur was high above my expectations to be honest! Very clean and organized and small of course! Luggage was out in no time and we got out and left for the hotel!

Over all ratings:
Aircraft: 9/10
Service: 5/10
Meal: 3/10

Hope you enjoyed this report! I will also be writing JJP-DEL soon!

Cheers!
Saurabh

pics to be out soon!

Swear we're really AI-NUTS Laughing
Nice TR, although sorry about the meals and poor saurabh expectin shayad koi F/A pat jayegi ... hehe just joking...
Btw just for ur info Capt. Moonga, the pilots are not allowed to take you inside the cockpit. If he does and a passenger writes it in complaint then the pilot can even lose his job. They're very strict on these issues and the F/A was very much right.
These days pilots even fear to take their own relatives, slthough it is not so impossible. So unless you know the captain personally its practically impossible.
So you'll have to wait till you get your seat not in th jumpseat but in the P2's seat first
regards

hey dude nice report.

You should write to VJM about the air hotties. Its said he responds to the mails himself. Dont know how true that is. I mailed CS once and I got an email that had his signature at the bottom. But I aint sure whether thats really his mail or is it doctored.

Anyway it might be a good idea to remind him that smart people with a real smile make better F/As than plastic dolls.

Cheers

I am pretty sure its JJP, i doubt ATC would be wrong. If you watch my videos on youtube you can clearly hear them refer to it as JJP.

ATC uses the ICAO code. What you heard was was VIJP.

I live in Jaipur. Whatever air tickets I have booked have JAI written on them. So ATCs use different codes-an interesting point.

Yeah I saw the vids, and was quite surprised since the code for Jaipur IS JAI, since thats what they use for scheds as well and when we book/checkin etc.. Quite confusing!

What’s a flight log exactly? Just for fun?

Well firstly you shouldn’t have laughed that much (even in your mind). I’m sure her response was …ummm.... incorrect, but she’s not going to just let you jumpseat randomly. You would be lucky if you got a cockpit visit.

Actually no they don’t. She was right; you can’t jumpseat domestic in the U.S. After 9/11 a passenger can’t ask. Well he can but 99.99999% of the time he won’t be allowed to.
You can on flights to/from America in international airspace (dependent on the airline of course), but once you reach American airspace it gets a lot harder. Most carriers will rarely allow it unless they know you or you work/intern for them or something.

Collector's item. So you can keep it with you and have all the details. Its just like how some people want to take autographs of their stars/celebs, there are some who like to maintain a log where they get the details like above!

You can make your own stuff.. With other stuff like load / routing / flaps setting for takeoff / Vr / Vref etc..

But just that the flight shouldnt be running too late or something, otherwise on the return, when they are busy trying to turn around quickly, you aint gonna get most of it filled..

Then again! Most of the pilots do understand how people can be aviation buffs (coz they themselves are/were one) Very Happy

Heres another example (Not mine)

That was for the almighty Concorde flight Cool BTW A.netters, who doesnt know Sam Chui!! Hail the man..

I was quite amused at the comment on the bottom -- Fly BA Today by the Captain.. hehe..

BTW, waiting for the shots of the trip Smile
